Starting - Purple wire size

I was just looking at the manual and it shows the purple wire to the solenoid to be 6 nmm, which is ~ 10 AWGauge.

I thought a bunch of our guys were replacing this wire with a 10 AWG wire to the solenoid. The above info seems to say that it already a 10 AWG wire, so why would they be doing that ? Can anyone confirm what the size of the purple wire is ?

When I replaced mine, the 10 gauge I used was significantly bigger then the purple wire.

I just replaced the full length of mine with 10, and it was the same size, or pretty damn close anyway. I think the problem that gets everyone is the heatsoak that happens to the lower part of the purple wire. Mine was pretty melted, so I rerouted it a little to keep it away from the heat some. I think keeping it away from heat is more important than running a huge wire.

I just recently installed the Summit battery relocation kit and ran my charging wire and new "purple" wire down by the distributor and down behind the block to isolate from heat, then ran the supplied battery cable from the bed into the frame rail then out in a exit hole up front then along the inside of the frame rail keeping everything as far away from heat as possible.

I know a lot of people have been having problems with relo kits, just thought I would throw that out there.

I don't have a purple wire going to the solenoid on the starter anymore. I have this instead: http://huryde.station180.com/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=mikecampbellakaSY2932&id=acv
The purple wire that used to got to the solenoid on the starter now goes to a remote solenoid mounted on the fenderwell:

The purple wire on my truck and my bud's seemed to be a little smaller than the new 10 gauge that replaced it as Jimmy mentioned.
