stock ic question

Installing my replacement upper ic this weekend, my filler neck leaks. Oh.. (thanks jWaller) for hooking me up with a good looking replacement. does anyone repair these i know that there are a ton of them. :tdown:

So I was doing some reading on the subject. And now I think I have a couple questions.


1. I just installed a bigger ic pump, and now it shoots waster out of the upper ic, if you pull the cap off (cold, engine off, key on). I searched but could not see any info that would lead me to think that the hoses can be installed backwards. Does this make a Dif. Or is the new pump just that much better than the stocker?

2. I am adding alky injection (thanks alky control). When the alky is on should I upgrade the lower ic (as I need a new one anyway) or is the alky and new ic pump good enough? In witch case I would try to purchase a stock lower ic. In either case how do I get a lower IC? I don’t see a replacement on any of the supporting vendors web pages. And can only seem to find older messages in my searches here, that are no longer an option.

Any welder should be able to fix it.

I am looking for a cheap one that needs fixed though if you want to sell it.

2. I don't know of any current aftermarket large IC's, dequick made one at one time which looked good, data I saw showed it didnt' help much.

With the alky you should be fine.

hey if the thing leaks then tell me about it, I have a stack of them and would be happy to send you another. its not exactly fair for you to tell people that I gave you a bad product if I havent heard the first word from you about it and have not been given a chance to fix the problem.

I'm getting ready to reinstall mine with a Johnson pump and I've been thinkin' about this. Using the theory that heat rises I'm going from the bottom of the IC rad (cold water) through the pump to the bottom of the IC then from the top of the IC (water is now hot) to the top of the IC rad. In other words just like the engine itself. I think that's the way it was made anyway. Either way that's how I'm gonna do it.

BTW Even with the original pump there was some spillage with the cap off and the pump running. I wouldn't worry about that.

no... my stock one, the filler leaks. (the one you sent looks great..have not put it on yet) this weekend i hope to get it on.

oh ok, I thought you said I sent you a bad one. sorry. FWIW I have had new filler necks welded on in the past it's not a big deal, any good alum welder should be able to fix you up.

the only problem with pulling water from the top of the IC is that it's almost impossible not to pull in air and thus get bubbles in the system.

I know you keep it full but I've tried it and it's very hard to keep it working all the time like that.

Do you need the overflow nipple on the stock IC? Mine broke off, and I really don't recall it puking coolant in the past. The pump runs all the time, so its not like the coolant gets excessively hot...

i have read *here that you do not need the over flow on your IC, IF the system is running correctly. but i am not feeling to good about taking the chance. im a panzy LOL

replacement upper ic works great. changed the hoses, no more bubble/foam issue. stays very cool after driving. truck is running pretty good right now. thanks again jwaller
