Stock wheel insert colour

I'm hoping to get my Ty back to showroom stock condition and want to get my stock rims refurbished but was wondering if the inserts were painted at the factory or left in a raw finish and clear coated? If they were painted, does anyone know what the colour code is?
Any help is appreciated.

Re: Stock wheel insert colour

I took my wheels to a refinish shop because I wanted that show room stock condition look. I never liked the painted wheel inserts and told them to leave it raw. The guy would not give up on trying to change my minde, because he said clear coating the raw rough metal in the inserts is not attactive. Needless to say I told him to do what he always does and sure enough I love it. He put in a medium grey color, I dont know any codes, but its not too dark and not too light. Its just right and looks like it could of come like this.

Re: Stock wheel insert colour

Thanks for the responses guys - both sets look great.

kmack - did you have to scotch brite the grooves off completely to get that finish? Did you only clearcoat the inserts?

Ruddell - I'm assuming your rims were stripped then diamond cut. If this was the case, did your guy have any trouble with the centre caps? My shop acid dips the wheels first to remove all coatings etc so I'm guessing that I'll need to remove the o-rings first. Will this make the centre caps wobble when spun on the cutter or am I just over thinking things?

If you could see a close-up, the grooves are all there, I just hand polished the h--- out of them and they turned out pretty good.

I have read that the people have had a hard time with the centrer caps with the refinishers. I asked the guys if they also do the center caps and he said of coarse. No problems. I havent put the new O rings back on yet.

It was $800 and I randomly picked a local wheel shop thats called Regina Wheel Works and had a great experience. At first I did attempt at doing them my self, but after a while the motivation ran out. It was worth the money to have them back to like new.
