I powdercoated my wheels and I dont like them. I did them too dark. I have a guy that wants them but wants them back to stock. I can burn off the powder or strip them but how do I get that machine cut finish back so I can clear coat them?

When the wheels are re-done they lathe cut them down......= machine cut finish. Center caps are a diff. story. Mine were done a month ago and look like new. Now I have great looking wheels with shitty dull center caps. From what they were telling me the wheels can only be cut down once.

HTH.

I am a machinist myself and I have a lathe big enough to turn them but they are not flat and that makes it a problem on a manual lathe. Are you sure they cut material? Who did it for you? Thanks for the help.I have them dismounted and I am going to take them to the burner tommorrow.

They do slightly cut them. Any shop worth a shit will also straighten and weld them before remachining them.

I lightly sanded my centercaps and sprayed them with clearcoat. Doesn't look bad although I will probably chemically strip them and reclear when I get time.

Thanks for the info. There is a place 2 miles from the shop. Cant they chuck the caps up also or bolt then to the rim? I have the wheels at the burner right now and I will glass bead them when I get them back. If they cant give me a good result I am going to re powder coat them a lighter silver color. It helps to have just purchased a powder coating shop.
