suggestions for a speaker box in sy

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for speaker box in a sy. I've got two tens I want to put in the truck, but would like the box or boxes to be easy to remove, pretty light, and not have me crammed into the steering wheel. Any recomendations are appreciated.

Just make the boxes as small as possible, it might not sound the best but you dont have that much to work with. To get more space take out the back speakers and the plastic holder, then you can fiberglass all that extra room.

I think Dubb had a box behind his drivcer seat after he put the sliding mechanism in, but that was a long time ago, and forgot the specifics.

I am currently working on a design with the same dilemmas. The major difference is that I only have one square ten. The best thing (sound, space, look etc) we've come up with so far is building the box so it spans the whole space behind both seats to get the desired internal volume. The issue with the square ten is the mounting depth of the speaker vs. the minimal space to work with w/o eating the steering wheel, so to remedy that we are going to reverse mount it and posiiton it on top of the box and in the center, about where the center console ends. It will be like a upside down T. Speaker in center, box spanning left and right. I am also ditching the rear speakers. They are poorly mounted and can barely be heard. Mine will have components (1in + 4 in) in the dash, Q-forms kick panels with 6 in, and the sub. 1 five channel amp that we hope to mount above the box behind the seats, haven't gotten that far yet. I've been thinking about the whole thing for a while to think of every possible option, but the bottom line is the lack of space. BTW I want absolutely no hacking of the truck and that makes it all the more interesting. I hope to start working on this within the next month and will keep you posted on our progress if you would like. HTH

I have a box w/ two 8" subs in the back. It does span the whole cab width and it's kinda heavy. The seats are permanently up one notch............. I could take some pix if you want to see what it looks like.

An 8" sub should fit and allow you to put the seat all the way back. I have a JBL 8" sub and two Bose 101 self-enclosed 4" drivers behind the seats, with Sony plate speakers in the dash. The sound actually isn't all that bad considering the lack of space.

I was also thinking of a bass tube like from Bazooka. For reasonable bass and easily removable and would take up relatively little space. I'm pretty sure you can get an 8" or 10" variety. Not sure what to do with the amp yet though.

I used a single (P12NEO) 12" Planet Audio behind the driver seat. The seat can go all the way back. The sub is made to be shallow mount. It is a neodymium magnet design. The box demensions are: 18" by 18", 3" top and 7.5" bottom. Sounds trick. Check there site out: www.planetaudiousa.com

i have a box with 2 10's in my sy.
the seat goes all teh way back still.
box is shallow.
space tween the drivers for amps - 2 SS 2x100's fit nice.
it has jbl dvc drivers - not many will fit.

if anyone wants to buiy it, it'll be up for sale complete as is (one speaker has a bad voicecoil and you can hear it a little bit as a buzz)
it's covered in lt gray vinyl.
i am gonna cut the bed and cab bulkhead for a bed mounted box.
if someone just wants pics to work off of, i can do that.
its in the truck; dont ask me to pull it till it goes for good.

I went to circuit city and bought a box made for an S10. Its wedge shapped and will fit behind the drivers seat. Its already covered and all. You can also put one behind the pass seat if you remove the jack.

I use the xtronics romulator with RTtuner to tune most of the time and then burn the chip with the pocket programmer2 with a few differnent programs. The only problem I had was that while using the EX switcher with that long cable I got a little RF running in on the cable. I cut it shorter and it did fine. I hear other people wrapped aluminum foil around the cable to fix it. Otherwise it works great.

There is a long thread about the romulator and RTtuner in the Chipping section I believe. If you have any other questions post em up in the chipping section please.
