sunday afternoon cruise in the syclone

race or get outta the way
so harry and i went out for a sunday afternoon cruise.

needed to test shift points on governor and tune drivablity.

even with a few boosted pulls we got about 15 mpg on the highway.

not bad with 160lb injectors.

anyway governor shift points are dead nuts where we wanted them.

only problem we had was when trying to do the boosted pulls was
cruising along at 55mph i would try to gradually roll into it kept breaking the tires loose at only about 1/4 throttle and 15psi boost, this was at approx. 65-70mph.

This was a little unnverving since its been a year since i ran it with the old motor.

finally got a handle on by simply rolling into it ever so slightly to test the shift point.

good thing we did the shakedown drive as we found the wg's had the wrong spring in them which made it impossible to run boost under 15psi, and we found one oil line that needs to be replaced.

otherwise harry says its ready for the track.

so we drove it about 60 miles round trip, with no wipers, no headlights, no exhaust, parachute hangin out the back and an expired inspection sticker.

looks like this could still do double duty as my daily driver.

wouldve been higher if we had only just done a straight un boosted cruise.

started with full 5 gal cell, drove 30 miles to keiths doing the pulls added 2 gallons when i got there. most likly wouldve been over 20mpg had we never gone ito boost.

Not to take anything away from Ed or his tuner, but if the tune is correct injector size is Irrelevant to mpg! especialy with siquental efi

Hey Ed,

Suprised you didn't get pulled over for not having the proper avaiation lights on the wings. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: . This truck must sound like a 747 going down a runway. I was in the shop on a test fire and when this thing comes up on boost hold on too your shoes cause they may fly off.

Good to here the news ED, don't forget i wanna be there on track day with the 2 camera's to catch all the good shots for you and i will blow one up for your wall in the shop.

Mine is still down working on the turbo set-up with Harry. Can't wait to get it back together.

That being said, those 160#'s require a bit of touch, since they are basically a ****ing garden hose shaped like an injector ;)

Sounds like the truck is coming along nicely Ed.

Wow, thats awesome being able to break 'em loose on the freeway and get 15 mpg. That thing must sound like a Herrior when doing a boost launch:rotf:
