Suspension Help...

I need some help with my sy's suspension. The truck has been lowered in the rear about 2 in (and bottoms out quite frequently) and the front looks to be lowered about the same, it feels very floaty and tends to wander on uneven surfaces and at speeds above 45mph, i thought it might be the shocks because they look like the original bilstein's. So today i proceeded to remove a shock from the front of the truck to have a better look at it, with the shock removed and in a vertical position it is a little difficult to compress, i would say from past experience with other shocks that they feel quite normal. Then i noticed that the inner tie rod seems to be rubbing on the lower control arm! I am no expert but this indicates to me that something is not right, could the idler arm and other components be worn enough to be causing this or is the truck lowered to much using stock components? Here is a pic of how the truck sits....... http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q135/250rtone/?action=view&current=DSCF0124.jpg

ok here is what you need to solve your rear bottoming out issue.....

as for the front, you didn't mention wich side it was that was rubbing?? i will assume it is the pass side rubbing on the frame.
pass side: = idler arm worn, damaged.
driver side, pitman arm worn damaged.

Both sides are rubbing the control arms. Thanks for the link, how hard will it be to drill through the the leaf spring?

not too bad, go slow, press hard, use lube, and use a good quality drillbit. :D

looks like the tie rod adjustmet clams are rubbing on the lower controll arm.

re- clock JUST THE CLAMPS,NOT THE SLEEVE, to face the front of the truck, and your problem is solved. :D

I don't think it's the sleeve contacting the control arm because of the grease there, i think it's the inner tie rod.......

Re: Suspension Help...

sounds like you should go ahead and do tie rod end, idler arm and pitman arm. no sense in changing one to have to crawl back under there again. and by looking they probably are due. with the truck off and the ignition in the on position how much slop is in your steering wheel? you might need a new gear box and or a steering shaft. i just pulled my steering shaft and the rag joint had some major slop in it. i might be suggesting overkill but wandering steering isn't something i'd mess around with

Re: Suspension Help...

I will check all front steering components for play, i did do the steering shaft upgrade that i got from a member on here and it made a HUGE difference than stock, i would highly recommend it over the "rag joint".
