I gotta finish rerouting some gauge wires, and it'll be back on the road for more tuning.

Re: Syclone #136

well as summer comes to an end, the motor held together. When i park it for the winter, i'm gonna tear into the rearend. I have a rear disc kit to put on, and freshen-up the diff with a girdle cover, new axles, bearings & seals. Also, i'm gonna put the Alky kit on.

Aside from that, the truck is running the best that it can, but it seems like something is holding it back. My best time to date is a 7.93 @ 86mph in the 1/8th, which equates to low 12s. I was hoping for a little quicker times, but i'm in no way disappointed.

Could there be any factor i'm missing in my build?

-.030 over stock block, stock crank, h-beam rods, TRW pistons
- ported L35 heads, 2.02int/1.60ext, beehives, 1.6 rockers, custom grind 218 cam .540 lift
- stock intake/plenum, stock TB, 65# injectors, Walbro HP255
- PT72, external WG, 3" dp, stock A2W with pump/hoses
- Code59 hardware, PLX wideband
- built 700R4, 3400 9/11, stock driveline
- stock tires on stock rims (lowest 60' was 1.7)

i made a decent tune for it. 22psi, 17* advance at WOT, no KR, smooth VE/AFR.

it just seems like its lacking something. i'm gonna put in a TCC lockup switch and head to the track 1 last time.

What am i not seeing, any comments?

80-90 on highway, 140-150 racing at track

Well once you get that methanol injection installed you should see around 80 at the track. I ran my typhoon at the track a few weeks ago, the times were horrible, I couldnt even do a decent boost launch because I couldnt spool up the turbo. I changed a few things in the tune and got it better and took it to the dyno, one that guy on pittspeed just opened in clairton, it made about 300hp and 400ftlb, to the rear wheels. But after the track and the dyno the engine makes a wonderful noise now "sarcasm" it makes a nice vibrating sound, motor never knocked at all. So its going to sit for the winter while contemplate what to do with it. I think it may be a bearing as the oil pressure has dropped slightly. It may sit for a for a few years while I gather parts for a v8 swap and 4l80e.

Re: Syclone #136

went back to the 1/8th mile tonight. it was cut short by rain, but i got in 2 runs.

Both slips are virtually identical, but the runs were completely different.

Run1:
R/T: 0.183
60': 1.833
1/8: 8.09 @ 85.3mph

Run2:
R/T: 6.99
60': 1.845
1/8: 8.07 @ 85.5mph

Setup was 22psi, 14.6* timing, no KR, no meth, junk street tires. (didnt have time to make the TCC lockup switch)

Run 1 was right off the highway, warm engine. Full 44psi tire pressure. I launched at 3400 about 4psi. Squealed a little bit, and was a nice steady run.

Run 2 was completely insane. I dropped the tire pressure to 20psi. The track rep. asked me not to launch like this again. I left at 3400 at 12psi. The truck squatted, and lifted the front. The tires grabbed for the first 2 feet, then completely let loose in a cloud of smoke. The truck veered towards the tree. I held it WOT the whole time. The truck flew through the RPMs almost instantaneously, so much that it shifted to 2nd, and the nose dropped back down, giving me traction, then the trans downshifted back to first and took off. All this about 5 feet past the tree. Still netting a 1.8 60', and an almost identical ET & mph.

So i think DRs & Battle Bars will do wonders for this truck. Then it should be ready to start tuning for meth, cause it would be more hurt then help at this point.

Re: Syclone #136

I'm gonna make it to the dyno on Halloween. See what it makes, then park and begin the tear down.

Vids/Pics of dyno coming soon.

I don't recommend that again either.... it'l take your trans out in short order.

This also screams bad track prep, or some crud on the track.

Re: Syclone #136

The 700's don't like it at all for the tires to spin then grab while under power. I know it looks cool and all but its going to cost you a ton in the end. I have been told by many and have lived by this that if you loose traction or want to roll through the water box and do a burn out DO NOT let the truck grab while you are still on the gas. Heck I did numerous burnouts with my roadmaster trans and it lasted me 2 years along with a few years with the previous owner, it met its untimely death to me loosing traction and keeping it to the floor.

Re: Syclone #136

so would it be worth while to run DRs and get traction 99% of the time, or should i keep the street tires, and deal with the initial tire spin?

M/T DRs. Unless the prep is really abysmal, you won't see the slip/grab/slip thing happen.

The spin through the 1-2 and then grab is a particularly evil thing to do to a 700. Lift, and live to race another day.

Re: Syclone #136

Your truck with a built motor should be running much better times. I have a similar build and a smaller T-63 turbo, I've run a best of 11.6 @ 118 and a best of 119 mph. I would say that stock intercooler is a restriction and the truck needs more tunning. I've never played with the code 59 setup, but I know tunning has brought my truck a long way from when we first started.
Good luck,

Nick
