Actually Steve got the cover. I was undecided on the clears, but they've grown on me.
No problems, just crawling around under there with the camera.
Steve said he had never been able to get the alarm to act right, I took of a bulging panel, and that's what fell out. I wound up stripping it down to the auto start/remote locks.
No paint on the cladding, just lots of Stoners Trim Shine, gonna be fun preping whenever the day comes to actually paint it.
Has a spot about the size of a quarter on the bottom left corner of the tailgate that's bubbling, I probably will replace the whole thing before paint (no time soon).
I noticed that (actually that the bumper cover didn't quite line up with the fender), a little tweaking solved that.
You sold it to Steve end of Feb '02, how long did you own it? (trying to put together it's history).
I
"never" had a problem with that alarm/remote starter! I use to have it & that stereo in a Freightliner. Sold the Freightliner & the Vette about the same time. Had it all stripped out of the F-liner & re-installed in the SY @ Circuit City which is where I got them originally.
I don't recall Steve saying anything to me about it. What-ever the problem was with the alarm developed after selling it to him..
I knew the bumper wasn't lined 100% perfectly, but it was good enough for me as a daily driver. My friend of course paid for the front-end damage/repair & I paid for the touch-up on the gate. I was just impressed with how good it all turned-out for as "cheap" as he did the work-$$$!
He said that the gate repair wouldn't last if water or mositure kept getting down in it from around the handle.
As far as time-line on the history.....hhhhhmmmm.....
I was tied in with a dealer in KY (just some piddling on the side). I was also approved for a Papa Johns Pizza Franchise & I didn't want to make a wrong impression on employees by driving a new-Vette. So I sold the Vette in October... & found the SY @ the Bowling Green KY Auto-Auction in Nov '00. (Ended-up passing on the franchise by the way)
So I buy the truck @ the sale (to be "my-personal" driver).
I was curious on it's history also & wondering where the heck the owners manual was to it. I could remember someone sitting on the passenger side as it was drove in flipping thru a black book & I thought that was it. The next day when I picked it up I opened the g-box & it's no where to be found.
I think I have these contacts wrote down somewhere as well as the 2nd owners contact info along with reciepts for the propshaft, tranny, manuals for the stereo & alarm, etc. If I find it i'll send it to ya. We moved 2 years ago so I don't know exactly where to lay my fingers on this stuff.
I called the dealer that ran it thru the auction, he bought it from another dealer like several months/almost a year prior. Never could sell it but drove it some. Called the dealer he got it from & this was an interesting story. (Might be 1 more dealer in-between, can't remember)
The 2nd owner buys it from the GMC dealer where it was purchased new & traded back in. (no contact info on the original owner as they moved away "IF" I remember correctly from the 2nd owner) The bed-cover was destroyed from what he recalled the dealer telling them per the original owner.
So the 2nd owner has it a few years then decided to trade it in @ a local used dealer. Then he came back & bought/traded again, does this like 2, 3 or 4 times....?? the thing was the truck was sitting there on this lot & they couldn't sell it. He loved it, missed it, & would get a hankering to want it back.
So finally, the last time, this dealer runs it thru the sale just to get rid of it cause he was tired of dealing with dude & it'd got to where they couldn't deal on it anymore...plus he couldn't sell it to anyone else (hard to sell)
That's the basic story I got from the other dealers is they couldn't sell it.
It either started from Indiana & went to Ohio or vise-versa (can't remember) & then went to KY.
So I called the 2nd owner... he backed up the story about trading/purchasing it back several times...lol...
I called him before Steve bought it & told him I was wanting to sell it, said he'd love to buy it back AGAIN but @ that time he was financially strapped.., shoulda never got rid of it, etc.
I know it's a crazy story but to the best of my memory & knowledge based on what was told to me, it's true.
2nd owner had a riding lawn mower & little trailer he pulled behind the SY.
So i'm the 3rd, Steve is the 4th, & you are the 5th owner.
Anyway.. I buy the SY Nov '00, buy my new STS Crapillac Nov '01, parked the SY in the barn in December '01, & Steve came along & got it in March of '02. It sat for about 3 months.
I drove it for awhile on a dealer tag before I tagged it in my own name.. Can't remember the mileage when I bought it..was like 88-90,000 miles, I remember it had 90 something on it when I F'd the tranny & shaft.

Believe it had about 119,000 when I sold it to Steve. Put about 30,000 miles on it in that year & 1month I drove it.
It was a good little driver. I only ran Mobil 1 15-50 oil in it as that is what we run in turbo Buicks.
I replaced (myself) the high-low A/C lines & recharged with R12. Hopefully it still has the R12. Man, it'd get real cold real quick!

I replaced the front pads & turned the rotors.... had to wax that thing once a month it seemed like as it'd oxidize/fade real quick. I determined that'd be the last black or dark colored vehicle i'll EVER buy.
Also the ABS light started comming on & staying (before I ever replaced the pads) so I just barley unplugged it from the top of the unit..you'd have to look real close as it looked to be plugged-in & no-one ever knew. I told Steve though.
That's about all the history I can think of to give ya on it. If ya ever have any questions or anything I can help ya with just let me know.
