Syclone Suspension ??'s

I am wanting to add some coilovers to cure some of the front tire wear and boatlike ride on my Syclone. I need to know what length and diameter shock/coilover will fit on all 4 corners and does anyone have pics of their coilover set-up?

Hey Buzz,

I'm don't know what the proper length would be, but RPM has a coilover kit for the front that shaves around 100lbs. I know its a a lot of $$, I'm just throwing it out there. Hopefully someone with some experience will chime in with the specs for a "drop in" front coilover. In the rear you would have to go with a different setup like a 4 link. I suppose you could possibly replace the rear shocks while leaving the leaf springs in with coilovers, it would definitely stiffen it up, but probably ride absolutely terrible.

Coilovers themself won't fix tear wear.

#2 search function and a hour or reading will provide you a lot more information than any 1 person can type here in this thread.

I did a search prior to my ?? post, searched and found pics of the front with C/O's, the rear pics I saw looked to have modified/relocated mounting points. I would like to see C/O's with the stock leaf springs. More than anything though is what length, from eye to eye, can the C/O's be? From stock ride height to lowered 3".

There is definately alot of info to consume. I should have reworded my ??'s better but was in a hurry, I thought someone would just have it on top of their head and receive an answer like "15 to 19 inches long and up to 3.5" diameter will fit most applications. What I did not find was any mention of total length, installed or static, I did find that 10" springs with 2.25"-2.50" ID work pretty well as long as you stay in/around the 500lb rating.

Front-QA1 DR4855, 2.25" diam springs (machining required)- 600# rate is a good place to start.

I have NOT been impressed at all with coilover on rear in ADDITION to stock leaf springs. The ride gets very harsh, spring rate increases drastically, etc. Just my 2 cents here.

I do have coilover rear suspension on my typhoon and love it, but it is all custom work.

Front-QA1 DR4855, 2.25" diam springs (machining required)- 600# rate is a good place to start.

My :2cents: is to get the 9" springs and use the QA1 1" top spring cup. This will save you time, headaches, and money.

I agree, rear coilovers in conjunction with leafs has got to make things ride rough. All you're doing is stiffening the suspension and you don't have the ability to adjust ride height. You would have to go with a 4-link or ladder bar settup with coil overs and ditch the leafs. Or get a drop leaf and adjustable shocks (like QA1's) to improve the ride quality with leafs.

My rear coilovers aren't that stiff at all. I have them with Belltechs lowering springs. I dont have that much preload on the coil springs. I don't know what every else is using for springs but I have progressive rear springs.

I have the ride height about where I want it now. As for the stiffening of the suspension...it really needs it, moreso in the front. The shocks are fairly new, less than 10k miles on them but they are way tooooo soft for me.

I bought rear coilovers from turbo time, I beleive they are progressive hypercoils on Qa1.

Shocks: DS401 (QA1: comes with spherical bushings already installed)
Springs: 0900.225.0550 or 0900.225.0600 (Eibach, quality and cheaper by 1/2)
Spacer: 9018-113 - QA1 Angled Spring Cap (replaces top cup, eliminates need for spacer)
Thrust Washer: Available at local Grainger. 3" OD, 2.25" ID (replaces "too large" ones that come with shocks)

Poly bushings are a must for the control arms. You're in there, might as well do it while you're ripping out the torsion bars. I've got some sources for the parts, PM if you want them.

This conversion was amazing... got rid of the "floaty" feeling.
