I also need a new torque converter. Would like a 2500-2600 stall w/ lockup. Any recommendations?

Mark I have just what you need and it is available from GM. Go to the site below and check it out. You need to get the TC P/N 24202310. This is the one I have had for the last year. My truck has gone consistent high 1.6's with a stock internal build. Anybody else that may be looking for a low priced alternative TC should look at this one. The price is right and it is not junk. Maybe not good for a big motor but a good choice for stock or mild builds. Note: The article states that the stall is in the low 2000's, but it actually stalls at 26-2800. I can hold up to 10#'s with this verter. The '85 Vette I had some time back had this converter and it held up great with a ton of nitrous passes (150-175 shots) and stickey tires.http://www.theherd.com/articles/torque.html

Good Luck

Mike :)

mike what are your mods? what boost are you running? I have the atr setup and a 44 on my truck and can barly get into the mid 12s

Maverick

I have the same setup as you with the following exceptions:
>Ultimate chip running on the T2-20-22 actuall boost is 20-21#s
>Ford "blue tops" 36# injectors...43#s of fuel pressure(at idle) -hose on
>Conley IC ( ice down the top of the IC and plenum between runs)
>Heat shields above DP and over turbo
>running xylene at track....1 gal. Xylene for every gal. of 93 octane with 1 oz. of Marvel Mystery oil per every gal. of Xylene
>No cat
>Full 3" custom exhaust from Mufflex
>No spare, jack, or passenger seat for track runs

Hope this helps

Mike :)

The torque converter in that article is what ours is supposed to already have in it. Our sytys came with a converter that stalls 2075 to 2175 rpm in that area. The people that have had issues with converters stalling too low are people that had trannies replaced or TC's replaced and the shop would put in a 1600 rpm converter that came in regular s-10s back then(they had a #7 housing also but the wrong stator). Our stockers have the #7 housing but had a special stator(15 fin or something like that) to increase the stall to 2075+.

This TC in the article is NOT the stock SY TY version. Remember I have had the stocker when the truck was new, believe me I know the difference. The stock SYTY TC is the E = K-115, rated at 1654 rpm, which really stalls at 2000-2150 with the weight and torque output of the stock SYTY motor and turbo. The TC rated at 2025 actually stalls at 2600-2800 depending on the torque output and state of tune of the truck. I have a friend that has an '85 Vette that is totally stock(60,000+ miles) down to the air filter and does high 1.7 60's on drag radials with his stock TC. His Et is in the low 14's @96-97 mph. If he had one of the "lessor" TC's there is no way he could get those 60's, and probably run high 14's--low 15's

Blake... no flame intended just wanted to get the record straight for those with stock or mild builds that may be interested in a low-cost alternative TC.

The blazer/85-86 Corvette converter is popular with c4 vette owners. The 9.5" converter are better though, as some have further upgrade to a 2600rpm vigilante and gain another .2

Mike,
So you are saying the converter thats being discussed here with the part number listed above, is not the stock Sy/Ty one and will stall higher? Correct.

And as far as the state of tune, I live in MN, so where do you think my MN truck will stall at? :D

I'm in the process of uploading a couple pages that explain all this stuff.
My Ty had the 2075 RPM stall converter in it. Maybe mine was messed up. Maybe yours was messed up. Who knows?

Sorry to the mods for posting this twice. The BB fairy is eating mosts of my posts now.
You guys find combos you like and I'll look up the GM part number and I'll post it here.

Read the info I took the time to scan, enter into the gallery, and then linked on here.
D=700r4 family
C=~2075 rpm with a brazed impellar
L=Type of clutch material and dampner
F=3 lug (to bolt up to flywheel)

Compare it to the other and YOU decide.

Yes thnakyou for the info I was just wondering if I should put it in?

I think Blake makes a good point here since the answers to your question ( whether or not it is the converter for you) is in the information provided.
