I want to add a tranny cooler and i came across this one from sumit racing. Looks good for the price. SHould i go with it? ALso how are you guys hooking them up? Are you still running the lines through the stock radiator and then route it through the extra cooler then back to the tranny. ?????

Thanks

Re: Tranny cooler from Sumit.

You want the highest rated one because if not what's the purpose.
Here's what I've had before and what I have now

Also if you want to get rid of those stock hard lines and loop your new external cooler in conjunction with your stock cooler in the radiator you can pickup the an braided line conversion from sytyperformance.com under the transmission section. Although kind of pricey it'll take care of all the lines and such for good.

Go to the junk yard and find some trucks. Just take the tranny cooler off those. Just make sure you flush them out and leak test them. I got two for $10. Just like the ones you show on summit.

I got the tranny cooler from RPM with the stainless steel lines. The cooler in the rad sucks, just mount the cooler in front of the condenser and run the fluid through that. My temps are kept cool.

Hi folks,

Well, I wouldn't ditch the radiator trans cooler just yet. Has anyone ever proven that it actually RAISES the temp. of the trans oil? I doubt it; it must cool it 10* or 20*, so I would run the external cooler after the fluid is run thru the rad. cooler. Any opinions welcome!

Most people dont ditch the stock cooler. They just attach another cooler from it.

I go Trans to Filter to External Cooler to Radiator Cooler. I have the temp sensor on the filter and I usually see 150 to 170, rarely any higher.

part of this depends on your thermostat and what temp your engine runs at.

I just went with a remote filter and this cooler.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-70297/

When I put it in, I bypass the stock cooler and mounted the the BM cooler in front of the A/C Cond on the left side of the engine. The cooler came with a thermostat to control the fan so the fan will cycle as needed, which is not often.

It was done years ago. But there are pictures on the site somewhere but you will have to search for them. When I put the new engine in, I will be making some changes to it in the hose department. I will be installing Braided Hose.
