Re: Tranny Pump
Working on a transmission can be kind of intimidating if you've never done it before. Working on a 700R4 (they're now called 4L60) isn't all that bad. Remove the torque converter, pan, and filter. Then remove the torque converter clutch lockup solenoid. It's the electrical doodad that points straight up into the pump. It's at the very front, on the passenger side. It's held in by two 10mm bolts. It should just pull right out. Remove the seven bolts holding the pump into the trans case. Now there's actually a special tool made just for removing the pump, but most people can get by without it. From the bottom (inside the pan area), you can take a large screwdriver or prybar, and *GENTLY* pry up on the backside of the pump. All you're trying to do is break the bond between the pump and the gasket. You don't necessarily want to try and remove the pump by prying it this way. When the bond does break, you should be able to wiggle the pump out of the case. Don't get discouraged, it will take quite a bit of wiggling. By the way, the large splined hub sticking out of the front will come out with the pump, so it's okay to pull on it. The splined shaft sticking out through that hub however, will not.
If you end up not going through the whole tranny, just be sure to use a new gasket, a new pump O-ring, and a new torque converter seal. Oh yeah---the seven bolts have little seals around the heads.....replace these too.
The torque spec for the pump bolts is 18 lb-ft. Torque them in a star pattern.
One more thing......do your best to start all the pump bolts before you completely drop the pump all the way in.
Good luck....and if you get stuck, just speak up. There's a ton of willingly helpful people here.
4C FED---I've never known a 700 to have an auxiliary valve body---maybe you're thinking of a 2004R? There are no tubes in a 700.
