Truck running bad again...

I need help again guys. I was driving yesterday and the ty started acting up again. If I gave it any gas and tried to get any boost from it, it would just jerk and sputter. Did this all day, barely made it home. I couldnt drive any faster than abour 80k, and it wouldn't even pull it self in OD. Last time it did this I unplugged the ECM and chip, plugged it all back in and it worked fine til now.
I almost called one of you guys in Edmonton, since that was where I was, but didnt really wanna bother anyone. What could be doing this? I will try and check all the ECM connections again, if not I am stumped. Anyone have a spare one I could try? Nolan, I think you said you had a spare last time, still got it?

Anyways thanks for any help guys.

Before you unplug the ECM, check for codes. Without some indication as to codes, we can't help you except maybe offer to buy it from you for scrap (because it runs like crap).

So, help us help you and give us some more to go on.

I will try and check for code, but last time this happened there weren't any.

Make sure none of the brass pins are bent in the ecm from RR'ing the memcal so much. I had similar problems and it would actually die and not work, yet for some reason it would drive for days without issues. I had pin bent and not plugged into the memcal. Something to check out. Look closely.

Re: Truck running bad again...

Is the memcal the "chip" under the back cover on the ECM? If so, the pins were good. When i first checked the codes it was a 44 O2 lean, and i remember it said 45 O2 rich befiore a few times. I removed the ECM and unplugged everthing including the "chip" under the back cover, everthing looked good. I started it up and no codes or anything, just like last time this happened. I guess I will try again and see how long it lasts this time.

Any ideas incase it happens again?

It sounds like it is saying that under certain circumstances (not all) it is getting a lean condition.
I would up my fuel pressure by 5 pounds if it happens again. What is your current fuel pressure?

One thing to check are your grounds.

The ones on the front of the lowwer intake
and the ones on the back of the drivers side head.

Re: Truck running bad again...

I took it out today again, ran fine for about an hour and a half, then started to stumble. The code 44 lean o2 came up again, and i noticed it says it was running at about 200*F, which seems high to me but i am not to sure, All day I couldnt make boost or it would sputter and not move. I did record a bit with DM, if anyone can have a look for me. When it started to cool off outside it started running better, on the way home it ran perfect. Could it be getting to hot? I am pretty stumped here.

Re: Truck running bad again...

Sounds to me like it could be the Catalytic converter IF the truck has it ???

My s10 tahoe had been acting up with the orig/factory converter .... sOoO i HACKED it OFF!

Had been running like a Champ .... until i added another converter  .

Fortunately for me i live in the USA, S.C doesn't require a vehicle to have them, & the only parts which suck about it are Property taxes are higher & no other state will do exhaust work on it

ya, the memcal is the green "board" that the black eprom "chip" plugs into. The memcal plugs into the ecm.

When you unplug everything (battery for example), you clear the cods, hence it goes away them comes back.

I never did think about the cat, is there any way to test it?

Thanks Mark, I sent you the file.

Re: Truck running bad again...

Yeah .... a few ways actually. Drive it IF possible until it's warmed up to temperature & check to see if the cat is glowing red or it's black looking on the outside. 2nd IF it's the cat then try drilling 1 good sized hole into it for air & if it runs better then bingo replace or do away with it. 3rd IF you think w/o doubt it could be then cut it off, if you can't see the screen & through the inside because it's covered in black carbon deposits It's Bad!

Re: Truck running bad again...

this morning my 91 s10 2.8 tbi truck died on me in the gas station but I think my fuel pump has finally gave out @ 218,000+ miles or it has blown a fuse which the manual says is under the hood but the ? is where. Possibly the same thing because my s10 was doing the same thing spitting, sputtering, & quit.

I changed the o2 sensor, which was a real pain in the ass to plug in. I will get back to you guys if it helped any.

Re: Truck running bad again...

Did it again tonight, if I put the pedal to anywhere where it would try and build boost, it would pretty much just shut down. If I let the gas off a bit runs fine, cant build boost.

Re: Truck running bad again...

Did it again yesterday, seems to only do it when it is really hot out. Any ideas?
