ultimate tuning help.

installed my ultimate w/ 3bar map and have been dealing with a stalling problem (truck will die at idle when warmed up). i'm a rookie datamaster user but noticed that my afr tgt is 10.0. does this seem right? i looked at my stock chip dm files and it usually stays right around 14.7. fuel pressure is at 50+ psi. ultimate chip says C3B16v10. i'm running stock injectors, stock tbo, etc. any input would be greatly appreciated. thx, paul

You did piggyback the stock chip onto the ultimate right? :D Installed the 3 bar map sensor? :D Make sure the vacuum hose and electrical connections are tight and then recheck the seating of the ultimate in the ECM.

yeah, the stock ecm was piggybacked. i went back in to the computer to make sure everything was seated properly and everything looked good. 3bar map sensor was installed. i'll double check the connections on the map sensor but i'm pretty sure they are okay.
can anybody verify the software version of the ultimate to make sure it is correct for my application? thx

Did you set your fuel pressure with the vaccum hose off and plugged? Fuel preesure should be set at 50. Where did you get the chip? Are you sure it's for stock injectors? Sounds like it might be for 50 lbs injectors.

yeah, i actually checked the fuel pressure 4-5 times... twice with the engine running and vacuum line pulled... several more times with engine off and grey wire jumpered. tried at 51psi and then at 54psi... no dice.

i got the chip from RPM (i.e. Mike Lee). i dont know how to read the version number from the chip label tho.

i'd almost hope that i got a chip for 50#ers so i know i'm not totally incompetent... :tup:

Don't worry about the AFR target. In the stock chip, this function is dummy function anyways, it is just an estimate.

In the later ultimate ver 10 and higher, the AFR target is for display of the actual WBO2 AFR in you have a WBo2. You would need to have a WBo2 and associated circuitry connected ot your ECM for this to operate properly.

anybody wanna take a quick look at my dm file and see if there is anything obvious? the recorded data has the truck idling in my driveway and started surging when warmed up ... i then attempted to go for a test drive but it was cut short due to these issues. maybe a more trained eye (i.e. not me) will be able to point me in the right direction...

Code 42 (EST monitor error)is set early in that file

Later code 31 (wastegate overboost) is set even though truck is at idle

The IAC counts seem high at idle anywhere from 80 to 115.

At the end of that file the IAC goes straight to 255 and RPM raises to 1900 while the throttle is closed.

I'd check to see that the Ultimate is properly seated in the ECM. Several people have thought it was seated when it wasn't.

If all else fails throw the stock chip map sensor back on it, reset the fuel pressure to 43-44 and see how it acts.

hey patrick, thanks for looking that over for me. i'll pull the computer again and try to reseat it again tomorrow. if things dont get better, then the 2bar is going back in w/ the stock chip.

as far as seating the ultimate goes, i press down until both tabs click. is it safe to assume that was seated properly?

You have version 10 (C3B16v10). This is correct for your combo. Let me how the truck runs with the stock chip/MAP. I'm the one who makes the chips if you're wondering.

thanks for verifying that the chip is the correct version. FWIW, i have a radar style ultimate which seems to be a slightly different design as far as the piggybacking goes. could this cause any other issues? i have read some other posts where others have had to trim the tab(s) in order to have the ultimate seat properly. mine seems to seat down fully since the tabs click into place.
i'll try to reseat the ultimate again this afternoon (after work). if no changes then i'll install the stock chip and 2bar map. i'll post the results. thx, paul

update:
i tried to reseat the ultimate and give it another go... no change.
put back the stock chip and 2bar map and all the craziness goes away.
any suggestions at this point? -paul

Paul,

You should have the newer style carrier (the part that goes into the ECM), yellow circuit board with STG Racing V1.1 5/03 writted on the underside. The old narrower green circuit boards were the ones that ocassionally required trimming.

todd helped me out and sent me a new eprom which cured all the issues. thanks to all those who helped out. now i just need to figure out some minor knocking issues.
