usb datamaster ?

Beavis

Still plays with trucks
I have the "older" serial cable from my old computer, and need to figure out what is the cheapest way to make it work. Will one of the usb to serial converters (radioshack, cables to go or the like)work and which ones? I did a search and all the results said just buy a new one. I would rather use what I have if possible. Any help would be great.... :)

Re: usb datamaster ?

Theres nothing more frustrating than trying to get a "Serial to USB" adapter to work with an ALDL scan tool like DataMaster. 95% of them DONT work because they only support PC baud rates like 4800, 7200, 9600 -- NOT the 8192 baud ALDL needs. Don't waste your time unless you find an adapter that is KNOWN to work with our trucks. A friend of mine got the old Belkin "F5U103" (Part number might be wrong, going from memory..), it's kind of a clunky box the size of a pack of cigarettes or larger, but it does work.
