Vortec intake options

Looking to see if anyone has different variants of vortec intakes. Something besides stock modified. I don't see any sheet metal ones. I don't see marine intakes on syty's. There has to be more options that really look good when you open the hood. If you've seen or built anything post it up. I found someone here in Cincy on the s10 forums that modifies v8 intakes to fit the v6. Pretty cool and I know we have a lot of talented people here. So what else is out there?

I'm pretty sure Wilson or NRE would make you anything you wanted.... for the right price.

I was thinking the same thing. That V6 Stealthram is awesome.

has anybody tried the Marine changeover?

Re: Vortec intake options

I've done the marine conversion on Procharged 4.3. I piece things together and although that takes more time, I save a lot of money. My retail 6,000$ Procharger set up cost me net $1,000. My mainfold w/injectors = $200!! (net) It works great!! For this to work on my '96 engine, I updated to the 2001 LS '411 computer which is required for my application. SyTy's already have the fuel rail and individual injectors so that would not be an issue. HOWEVER, as has been mentioned, the cut-down 350 stealth ram is really cool and performs, and a 2114 Edelbrock manifold is pretty easy and relatively cheap to convert as long as you have the vortec heads and performs well!!! (96-up)! With my manifold/computer swap I felt immediate improvement (over my stock spider injector manifold). I tune with EFILive and am averaging 22.5mpg @ 300fwhp. The marine manifold is cast iron so I gained weight over my stock aluminum manifold. Someday I'll probably find a used 2114 for $125 and go that direction!

Re: Vortec intake options

I have a vortec TPI baseplate in my garage. If I had the knowledge and tools Id cut down a TPI setup. It's not the most powerful intake but it would be a really interesting thing to see.

Re: Vortec intake options

The TPI would be cool! I had a '91 B4Ccode Z28. Also it would work with the old headed motors! For '96 up vortec heads the manifold bolts to head differently than the pre-'96 engines which really kill the TPI swap idea for vortec headed motors. The Mini-ram works pretty good!

Re: Vortec intake options

I would think a TPI would be difficult to cut down to fit a v6. The intake ports as they cross the manifold are at a diagonal. If I ever decide to go further with engine mods on my Syclone I am going to go with the 2114 intake and elbow.

Re: Vortec intake options

To do the TPI for a vortec V6 motor, Scoggins Dickey sold a TPI vortec base for $$$ THEN that could be cut down, along with the top, and you are back into something with a lot of money. It is actually hard to beat the Typhoon-Syclone intake setup actually! A very nice ram manifold in its own right!!

I personally would do the 2114 myself, because it is cheaper then buying a Holley Stealth-Ram (for vortec 350) then having it cut down, gets pretty pricey. I'll just stick with my cast iron marine intake. Super budget build!!

Re: Vortec intake options

I already have the tpi vortec base sitting in my garage from scoggin dickey, and the plenum and runners. I'm not going to do that I just think it would be cool to see.

I just don't want to spend a bunch modifying the stock intake when in my application there's no need for original. I can sell my stock intake and do whatever I want for an intake. Looks and function are more important. And I'll have an air to air intercooler so I can have it forward facing. Really wish there were sheet metal options that weren't one off for a ton of money. I'll probably do the edelbrock setup though.

Re: Vortec intake options

The Stealth Ram is a cool little piece. The TPI would be too much work. I hate that manifold anyways. Working on my TPI car recently and I have to pull the upper plenum again to get at the regulator. Cant get at the lower runner bolts if you have taller valve covers. Im liking the 2114 intake. Seems like better air distribution over the stock manifold.

I did the 2114 intake and converted it to EFI years ago. We do it here at the shop for V8 applications all the time as well. Not cheap to do, but it works.

For forward facing 2114 manifold with stock throttle body

I need one of these side facing. Looks like my options are make it myself or use a Wilson elbow and a round TB. Anyone else have pictures of their converted intake setups?
