Wastegate

Just bought my syclone about a month ago. Had someone check out the motor and the turbo didnt have a wastegate. The guy tells me that for some reason my turbo was welded shut and I need a wastegate. He told me that he would put a custom external wastegate on my truck for $700.00 (400 for parts 300 for labor) does that sound right? Im seeing external wastegate on ebay for 50 bucks.

Re: Wastegate

Post pics. Do you still have a stock turbo on the truck? If so, it's internally waste-gated, he might've missed that.

Re: Wastegate

You need to be careful with eBay wstegates. If they fail to open properly it could cost you an engine. If it opens early, boost response will fall. If you do go external, get a good one.

See that goldish color round thing with the rod? that's our wastegate basiclly and if that's missing then where that rod connects to (exhuast housing) there will be a small round whole with a flap that opens (wastegate puck) that will need to be welded shut or wired shut in order to run an external wastegate on the crossover pipe or just buy a wastegate for the turbo.. bolt it on (two screws) and pickup some fat chicks

Re: Wastegate

The guy I bought the truck from said that it didnt have a wastegate at all. He told me that If i wanted to take the turbo off and send it to get repaired that they would put on (external) there. The turbo only makes 8 to 10 psi, so he wasnt concerned about the wastegate.
