Buy the real thing. If you feel you have the "clone" gene just go get a SoGT and that should hold you over....... I'm out

Do what the army does, "Don't ask, don't tell"
As long as the engine wasn't stolen, its cool.

I would like to see a sy/ty engine in a geo metro, 2dr coupe!

That comment makes me sad....:eyes:

There was a post the other day, a kid who had a Tyclone that was painted pure red, I, and a lot of other members thought it looked really, really good, and I don't see that kid losing credibility for anything. IMO it shows more talet and focus for a project to build a replica of something from scratch. Just my :2cents:

Tell ya what, IMO, go for it. There's some gorgeous equipment out there and if it's done right then you deserve the credit.

I don't look down at SyTy clones. To do them right, cladding, AWD V6 turbo its more cost effective to buy a SyTy. Their really aren't very many SyTy what I call 'real' clones, usually they have either the motor or the cladding, but usually not both. SyTy will have more resale value as well.

I'd build the clone... Chances are you will get the sy/ty and end up wanting to replace everything on it anyway.. So why not start with a regular S10(dirt cheap) and only buy the stuff once...

yeah...it was the kid that bought my black Ty the other week that has the red clone. It looks really sharp, he put tons of time in on it, fixed broken cladding, and really made a nice truck out of it. Granted, its a NA 4.3 with a 5 speed, but is still cool. Some people can't come up with the cash to buy a real SyTy, but may have a 2WD blazer, and stumble across a bunch of parts to turn it into a SyTy. Its happened before. I think that building a clone is cool; if you want to get the parts and do the work, awesome! They don't say "imitation is the ultimate form of flattery." for nothing.....

Re: what do you guys think?

If you want to build a clone, have fun with it. Sometimes, its the only realistic option. My girlfriend eventually wants a '69 Camaro Indy Pace Car. Real Z11's are selling for $70k and up as half-assembled projects, so that's just not going to happen. Once I have the space, she has agreed that buying any '69 convertible and swapping parts and paint is fine for what she wants.

One important point though: if you do decide to build your own, don't try to pass it off as an original SyTy. I know I'll tell anyone who asks about the Camaro its real history (years from now when I get to that point) and I suggest you do the same. Good luck with it one way or another.

I never said anything about losing credibility. If thats what a person wants to do, fine. My comment was just me being me and being silly at the same time. Build a 500ft deer stand while your at it  I actually posted a postive comment about the kid who had the red Tyclone. Thank you, thank you very much

I think you missed my point, what I was sad about was the fact that you said if he wanted to just get a clone buy a SoGT....

Re: what do you guys think?

well should i try and find a sy/ty motor or will i be better off just building a turbo 4.3 of my own? i am open to any suggestions so if ya have any let me know. kinda looking forward to this build cause it will give me the oportunity to really see what i can do and how many different things i can do to make it kinda unique.

The advantage of using a SyTy motor & ECM is that you will have a large knowledge base. The disadvantage is that its expensive for some parts.

Re: what do you guys think?

If you are gonna build a clone from scratch, why not take 4.3 block, and build it for boost with decent parts from the get go.
Use a stock donor and you still end up with soft pistons and junk rods.
I consider a 'clone the point where the cladding goes on and the owner wants everyone to have the first impression its a syty.
If you just want a fast truck that is turbo and different then build it out of decent parts and just use the ECM, intercooler, intakes, throttle body, transfercase, etc from a SyTy.

By the time you build a clone you can usually buy the real thing and have more resale value plus the VIN to prove it.

Re: what do you guys think?

will a noemal everyday 4.3 handle a turbo with the proper set up or is the turbo engine totally different?

this has been discussed a billion of times, there are manny write-ups about this.

compression is to high to run more than 7PSI of boost.
you need other rods and pistons, and a different cam would be nice.

if you search this board, you can find all the information you need + the rest.

good luck with your build..
