What happened to my tranny?

I was driving my Ty down the road at 65 and bang, the thing acted like it went into neutral. No fw gears or rvse. Nothing. I just had the tranny rebuilt about 750 miles ago. Any ideas??? I think the filter fell off and lost psi at the pump. ????? Any help you all can provide is really appreciated. Thanks, Mike

sounds kinda stupid, but the first thing I would check is under the truck.

1. Since you say its a new rebuild, maybe someone forgot to put the pin in the shifter cable, something from the road came up and hit it, knocked the trans in neutral and the cable disconnect?? :D ok ok ok, but it doesnt hurt to check.

2. Next I would check for any visable leaks or cracks under the truck.

3. Pop the hood and check the fluid. You should have some fluid on the dipstick reguardless of it running or not, I would check for debris in the fluid and smell if its burnt or anything.

4. Call up the trans shop it was rebuilt at and explain to them the problem and that you will be bringing it back for them to fix correctly this time.

5. Any chance you have a TCS converter in there?? A friend of mine had one in his Buick, was traveling at the same speed, encountered the same problem, BANG then nothing. Turns out the center spline where its welded to the converter ripped right out for no apparent reason. Thankfully nothing got in the trans so it was just a simple converter replacement and he was back on the road.

hope that helps.

No visible signs of trouble, just no go. I'm positive that it is something internal but just wanted to see if anyone had the smae problem and how did they fix it. If I can't get it going with minimal effort, it will be up for sale. I get kinda tired of guessing games with these things, but you still gotta love em.Thanks,Mike

I blew the sprag in my truck and it acted very similarly, plus the sprag is notorious for exploding because of a flaw in GMs tolerances initially... Perhaps that would be it?

Did you have any fwd movement at all? I have none, I even tried to bait the thing by putting a new set of rims about 25 feet in front of her, but no go. She's hurt for sure.

I'm pulling it into the shop tonight to see what I can find. Thanks for the direction on the converter. I'll post what I find soon. Mike

just remove the tranny line goin to the rad. see if anything comes out when u crank it. tells you if you have any pump action.

either way doesnt really matter it has to come out, problems internal, soon as it comes open you will know what went.

to lose all gears it has to be the pump or converter.
