Here's answers in order:

>SyTy = 6" Will need a custom timing pointer

>I have no idea.

>Be very careful of balance issues. If the small block was a 2-piece rear main crankshaft, if will definitely NOT work with a 4.3. Even if it's a later SBC, I doubt the 'imbalance' in the balancer is the same between the 5.7 and 4.3. Don't mess with balance in these engines. There's a LOT to it, and my experience has been that even VERY knowledgable people don't understand the nuances of balance and weights in the 'evolution' of the 4.3. If it doesn't 'shake' now, DON'T F..K WITH IT!, and it won't shake when you put it back togeather.

>Nothing. To me, at least.

Dave what do you think about converting a stock crankshaft SyTy motor to internally balanced with the Eagle H Beam rods and the SRP pistons?

Our Cranks are both, internally balanced in the front and externally balanced in the rear!

Re: what kind of balancer?

Really? Can you elaborate? Are you saying the factory added/drilled weights to the crank counterweights?

I couldn't find many (if any) balancing holes in my stock balancer, but I did notice some weights on the flywheel. I guess that follows along the lines of what you just said..

Re: what kind of balancer?

i'm taking my rotating assembly in next week to be internally balanced, with TRWs, and h-beams.

maybe i shouldn't???

BTW. the stock SyTy crank I'm using has dimples drilled in the counterweights, thats how it came outta the stock motor.

Yeah they are all like that, but I have never seen any with mallory weights added to the crank like a real internal balance. (I'm no expert on crank balancing, FWIW). What kind of quote did you get for internally balancing your rotating assembly? I have heard ballpark quotes of $500-$600. Can you keep us updated if you get more information?

Re: what kind of balancer?

i told him i wanted to see if it could be balanced. He said that V6's can't really be balanced, but he would need to look at it. He mentioned $250. but again, he hasnt seen it.

He's a reputable builder, making everything from custom street rod motors, to dirt track small blocks. He has 2 or 3 crank balncing machines in his shop.

i'll talk to him on friday, and report back here.

Re: what kind of balancer?

If you want it internally balanced you would need internal flywheel and then they would press metal into your crank to try and balance it internally.

Internal balancing is need if you run high RPM's 8,000-9,000

Otherwise leaving it internal front and external rear is fine and with good balancer and flywheel it will be long lasting.

We think the Harmonics were off in my crank and is why only the main bearing got damaged. Just bought ATI internal balancer and new TCI Flywheel.

Hopw this help!

Re: what kind of balancer?

Hey maty111, sorry to hi-jack your thread - but at least we're still on the topic of balancing SyTy motors :) I think DaveP answered your question in Post #2.

Did you get a price quote on the cost to convert to internal balance?

Re: what kind of balancer?

It looks like an fluidampr. But I've not run across one without markings before.

Re: what kind of balancer?

so when buying a damper for the front go with internally balanced, or externally balanced?
