What should I do??

Hello. I bought a syclone #289 about 3 months ago that had been sitting for years. It has 35,900 miles on it and is in nice shape. I spent 11,000.00 on the truck... since it had been sitting I knew it could use some updating. So, I spent about 3,300.00 on getting it all back to new condition again. I changed many things: plugs, distributor, wires, fuel pump, water pump, re-did the intercooler lines with rubber, valves, etc.... It started ticking and the guy who was helping me could not figure out what it was.. sounded like injectors but i think its something worse. I have had a couple people (who really dont know that much) tell me that it could be a bent piston rod. I really dont have the money to fix it right now so I think I just want to take a loss and get rid of it.

My questions:
What should I ask for it?
How much would something like this cost to fix?
would i be better off selling it as is or fixing it then selling it?

Any info you may have would be highly appreciated...

Thanks in advance.

PS.. anyone in so cal wanna buy a cheap syclone that needs some TLC???

Where is the ticking coming from?

I am from Orange County, CA.

The noise is coming from the engine. sounds like its pretty central. I have had the valves, lifters, injectors, etc.. all checked out and he told me that all looks normal. When he asked me if I wanted him to rip open the motor and investigate deeper I declined.

Can you tell us more about the ticking noise, like is it a ticking or knocking noise, dos it increase with rpm or dos it go away. The injectors are going to tick kind of loud, how did they check the lifters? Maybe you have a collapsed lifter, they tick too if they are collapsed. If it's a knocking noise it could be a rod bearing or a wrist pin, and if you hear a knocking noise coming from the floor board on driver side, that is fuel lines running over trans that are hitting the floor board.

When did it start to tick/knock, as soon as you started it after it been sitting or after you did some repair to it, what distriubitor did you install. Stock rebuild or something else?

Try to give us all the information you have, even the slightles you can think of.

Thank you guys!

Ok, the ticking pretty much started after I had the work done. I can feel it on the floorboard a bit but at first when I heard it you couldnt feel it. Yes it ticks with the RPM, doesnt go away. Had the lifters checked twice, same as valves, injectors, etc... It was running good, just ticking a lot right after I got it done. I dont drive the truck that much but my other truck was getting worked on so I had to drive the syclone about 30 miles to my office. I noticed the ticking getting louder and could start to feel it now. When I exited the freeway I noticed that I had loss a great deal of power. The boost guage was still registering boost but it didnt feel like it. The turbo wants to go but something is decreasing the power. Like I said before, some people told me it could be a bent rod or something, do you think that would be the cause of all this?

Thanks again!

I had three slightly bent rods in my engine but it didn't make any noise, if you rod is so bent that it would make a noise it should be a knocking noise. How did they check the lifters, maybe they didn't adjust the valves right, if they have to much play it will make a ticking noise and you loose power due to that the valves wont open properly.

If the ticking started after they worked on your truck, thay must have done something wrong. It woulden't suprice me if it's the valve adjustment? Maybe they forgot to tighten one or two of the rocker arm nuts and they came loose? If so your truck is only running on 4 or 5 cylinders. Try to pin point the ticking to a valve cover, use a screw driver against your ear and valve cover.
