I never use my roof rack, are they hard to remove?

I have the wing and the rack :bad-word: ...double whammy. I hate them both. They need to come off...fast. Are they hard to remove? and does anything go wrong (like rust or leaking) after you take them off?

rear wing is easy... go to junkyard,....get rear glass hinges off of a regular blazer/jummy/bravada, and switch them out.

roof rack is different....torx bolts on the top, and they almost always twist in the sheetmetal.

then you have to drop the headliner to get to the nut inserts, and put a vice grip on them...major pain in the ass!!

I would not have bought my Ty if it had a rack. Had to be white/white or red/red and no rack. I put on the clear (no defrost) rear window with no wiper and shaved the antenna. Truck has to look clean and simple.

No rack, No wing, has the wiper, but I will work on that soon. I have to admit it does work nicely.

Of course, I would have a heart attack if a bicycle ever got that close to my Ty...which is why I need a beater one too. :lol:

I like the rack also, it ties it together. Looks better after the trucks lowered

on black trucks it blends in.

my list of why nots
Looks terrible on white trucks.
its useless (for most of us)
its ugly (more noticeable on colored / white trucks
its gives water lots of places to get in and hide
most gentlemen prefer smooooooth

If its off leave it off.
They will have to weld up and finish the holes, might be some spots where the sheet metal is dimpled upwards, but like Dave said...

I'd like to see pics when they do weld them all up because I get asked about mine a lot.
Also consider welding and smoothing the roof seams at the B and C pillars.

And I would shave the tailgate lock if I had the chance again.

Before you go to paint make sure the "drains" in the bottoms of the doors are open and free of debris.
I'd even open them up a bit and seal them.

2 doors without roof racks are ok, take the rack off a 4 door and you got yourself a station wagon
