Where to install bung for wideband

I have ordered a wideband controller and I'm trying to plan ahead on where I can install the bong for 02 sensor. Now that they changed the regulations for inspection I want to remove the cat and replace with a straight pipe and add the bong there. Questions are : installing it that low is that okay for wideband readings, (2) is there a way to get a pipe that I can install myself to replace the cat? I have a original Down pipe but a 3 inch cat back from rpm. How can I get this to all work out? Thanks in advance for all the help!!

I think what you are referring to is a bung :)

Re: Where to install bong for wideband

Vinny I bought a band clamp that had a welded O2 bung on it. I just drilled the a hole in the DP before the cat (under the truck) and put the band clap around it. Then the WB O2 threads in and was good to go. The general rule of thumb Is 12" after the turbo and anywhere pre-Cat.

If you decide to make a test pipe to replace the cat I have the correct weld in bung you will need. I've had it laying around so if you need it let me know.

About the exhaust contact rpm.becauae it has a 2,5" flange.for.the original cat.

Wideband can be placed into stock location

On the top of the dp to minimise condensation effects.

Usually the manufacturer will have a recommendation as to how far to install it from the turbo/manifold. IMO the stock bung is too close. (too hot)

The simplest is one of the band bungs, but you need a flat area to mount.

FWIW -My WB bung is all the way down at the end of the down pipe and seems to be reading accurately there. :2cents:

Re: Where to install bong for wideband

I've tuned several that had them in the post-cat area or the area where the cat was. It works fine as long as the sensor points above the horizontal as much as possible.

If you're building a "cat test pipe" already, that would be the place to put it.

I highly, highly recommend putting a v-band flange set on the output of the downpipe and the inlet to the cat test pipe, for ease of disassembly. Makes work on any trans or downpipe related items (including the turbo) 100000x easier.
