Re: which engine oil

x2 although AMSOIL is very high quality. I have proven Mobil 1 full synthetic many, many times over the years and don't intend to change.

x3 amsoil is the best, My cylinder head guy decided to change oil after 1 run between amsoil and mobil1 (bracket racing) to see what kind of, if any performance difference there would be. His usual run was on Mobil 1 (which was freshly changed), 2nd run picked up 5mph on amsoil.

Unfortunetly amsoil is to expensive for my pocket so I stick with Mobil1, Valvoline syntec or Quacker state synthetic. In an application where I wanted the most performance with the most protection I would defenitely run the amsoil, brad penn or Joe gibbs. The brad penn's and joe gibbs oil's claim to have more zinc/phostphates which is what breaks down your oils viscosity level. you can blame the EPA on why every oil doesnt have a higher level of each in your standard stuff.

Re: which engine oil

Guys,
please remember that all oils are changing... the SM and new SN classifications have greatly reduced amounts of zinc and phosphorus, which is a big problem for solid lifter cams (not us), piston scuffing, pushrod ball ends, wrist pin issues, etc.. And Mobil1 is not what it used to be since they reformulated a few years ago.

The entire parts industry is finally waking up to the facts....

Any of you guys running high HP motors, or who are in the middle of tuning with known KR issues, should be running a high zinc oil, or an additive.

Re: which engine oil

I once spent almost 8 hours researching motor oil on a few different motor oil forums. Yes, there are actually web forums where they talk about nothing but oil (and I thought we were weird:screwy:)

Anyway, the members on that site were so knowledgeable about everything oil that I was blown away. Very impressive what I had learned in reading posts there for a few hours.

Anyway, I too was concerned about the "bad rap" that Royal Purple was getting, so I did a search.

Long story short, I found that all of the major synthetics are very similar in protection. There were arguments for/against every brand out there. I was impressed with those in favor of Royal Purple and the evidence that they brought to the table. I read many real life posts including one with cam pics of identical motors with almost identical mileage. The Royal Purple cam looked brand new.

I have been using Royal Purple since its inception years ago. I remember having to go to the local speed shop to order it by the case back in 01. I've logged 16k on my SVT, now 44k on my Tahoe, 66k on my Explorer and a whopping 2k on my Typhoon over the last 9 years of using nothing except RP. I have yet to find as much as a single sliver of metal in any oil change and have not 1 engine problem. Knock on wood:eek:

So I would go with whatever you wanted. I am not promoting RP, just saying that I've used it for years. I will, however say this. There was ALOT of talk about Amsoil on that website. Much of the information had to do with Amsoil doing ALL of there own testing instead of independents. I was shocked at how many people have accused Amsoil of tampering with the tests to make themselves seem like the best oil in the world.....

:2cents:

I will check to see if I can find the forum for reference....

EDIT: Found the site. Feel free to take some time to search so you can come to your own conclusion. There is alot of very good information here. Good luck!
