which engine oil

Re: which engine oil

Brad Penn or Joe Gibbs have the Zink additives in the oil. They are
One of the few that do. I believe that additive is needed still in oil
You can buy it separate and add it to your amzoil or RP. Just make sure
You are getting that additive in some form.
The weight of the oil is a entire different story and is complex.
You need the lightest/thinnest oil possible with out having bearing wear
The old theory of thick oils is long gone. Unless you have wrong bearing
Clearances or warn out parts 10-30 or thinner should be what you
Want.

Re: which engine oil

I run RP in my Sy, even after running the engine dry at a huge oil leak no sounds of damage what so ever! The engine stil runs strong and I use it as daily driver at this moment.

110,000 miles on my jeep, whatever kind of oil I have laying around, change it when it looks black:lol: Doesnt smoke or burn ANY oil(have never added oil). Nothing but Mobil 1 for my GN(59K) with a zinc additive about every 2000 miles. Smokes a little about 30 sec after start up(turbo seals) then clears up(plus a few drips on the floor when it sits). Mobil 1 for the Syclone, no smoke, change it every 2-3K. Don't really have a point with this info:2cents: Other than use a zinc additive. Most oils are removing it to meet cat. converter govt requirments.

Re: which engine oil

Amsoil all the time every time.. had the oil pickup fall off on my race car and made low 7 second pass at 187mph turning 7500rpm... didnt catch the low oil pressure lights until I was through the traps... dropped the pan and didn't even scuff a single bearing. The cost of great oil is far less than the cost of mechanical failure due to cheaper oils...

Very good statement there. I have not run AMSOIL in any of my vehicles. I started out running Mobil1 for years, then I also started researching. I switched to Rotella 15W40 (in the Ty) about 4 years ago and have not looked back. While the formulation has changed recently, I still run it and the teardown of this engine proved to me that even in harsh conditions, this oil still performs.
