White Smoke

I just did a tune up today and now the truck is blowing white smoke. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor, oil change, and added an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I just got the truck last weekend, all stock. It would give a small puff of white smoke on start up but that was it. Any ideas? Thanks

White smoke is usually coolant in the cylinders? I woudl start by pressure testing the cooling system.

Ill check it, but how could that happen from a simple tune-up?

OK So it didnt do it before the tune up? Thats dosen't make much sence. Maybe there is moisture in the exhaust and it looks like white smoke is coming from the tailpipe. Did you just buy the truck?

Re: White Smoke

yea i got the same prob, whenever i start up sometimes ill get a hefty amount of white smoke coming out of my dual cat exhaust... Now i dont think its the custom exhaust system, but couldn t it be oil leaking in the cylinders? or turbo leaking oil... Let me know, my ty is my lyphe :)

Smoke on startup is usually valve guide seals. It's a common problem.
Now that you have a lot of it, it could be leaking seal on turbo or you nuked 1 or more cylinders (broken ring, piston, etc) with detonation.

Ah, our wonderful public school system at work.

I'm glad my tax dollars are being spent to incarcerate you one day, since the dollars spent educating have failed.

Re: White Smoke

from experience, it was the valve stem seals that created the white smoke upon initial start up.when i first bought the truck, i really didn't notice until i changed my oil to a 5w/30w sythetic.i replaced the valve stem seals(the intake and exhaust are different but replace them all), it had never smoked or lost any oil. this is very common. you can have this done withouttaking the heads off. i saw a thread on this sight that had some very good ideas for the back yarder. use rope to hold up the valves (stuff the cylinder with a nylon rope and the valve will not fall.) go to your local tool shop and they sell a tool to collapse the spring for safe removal.
i now suspect the previous owner used a higher weight oil to try to cure this problem and it didn't work so he sold the typhoon to me beacuse he thought he had worn rings but tried to hide it from me, there is no honestly among some people, his dishonest selling of the truck got the best of him because it only took me a half day and a few bucks to have a smokeless truck.

Re: White Smoke

Constant white smoke now? Have you checked the coolant level in the radiator? Did you go out and flog the truck after your tune up? Is it still running smoothly?
