what makes the top end of these trucks suck (besides aerodynamics)and what mods could you do to make this a strong part of the acceleration of the truck. i shouldn't say sucks cause i love everything else about it but it is just not up to par. ya know.

Change those and you are off to the races. There are Datamaster runs of Dabney's Ty doing 140+ somewhere so it possible to make 'em faster.

i mean acceleration of the truck not top speed. 140 is very very fast but getting there fast is what i am talkin about.

If your comparing our top end to other cars like the turbo buick, here are my answers.

AWD - Nope
Aero - Nope
Weak heads - Nope
Cam - Maybe a little
Weight - Ty yes, Sy No
Turbo - Yes, Yes, Yes

Here's some prove, My truck was very stock, only major mod was a 20G-14cm2 turbo and it ran 110 in the 1/4, very similar to those stock turbo buick's with a similar size turbo(650cfm).

I ran my truck without the propshaft at nationals and actually lost an average of 1 mph. I was running 106-107 in AWD and 105 in RWD. I made about 10 passes in AWD and 5 in RWD.

AERO doesn't have much to do with a truck running slower than 10's in the 1/4 mile.

Our stock heads flow similar numbers to the TB's according to their website, the only difference is they have a better design, less prone to detonation.

I was actually thinking of the viewpoint of a race from a punch...40-130+ for example...alot of the other factors would take effect.

Good info...how much did you spin in RWD? Did you have DR's on the back?

AWD is the biggest reason on the top end.
can you guys not feel that lugging... it's like the truck wants to go, but it's just not going... the AWD is really holding it back on the top ends...

only... only if we had a setup like the skyline. if i could choose 2 things to change. i'd change that, and also make the ty's lighter. 3800lbs... *sigh*

I dont know why it would be so hard to have a shift on the fly transfer case. My POS subaru has a little button on the shifter you push it you got AWD you push it again you got FWD no lifting no nothing just engages. My parents new suburban also has a feature like it.

I agree

I ran a bunch of 2.1's with the BFG's in RWD. I'm sure having to launch at such a low rpm hurt my mph some, being out of the powerband for a second, but I still expected to pick up some mph.

I have found that my Typhoon is not an NSX. It is a low grunting motor . At highway speeds my truck is quicker at 3/4 throttle or right before shift down. More exaust and higher gear. I have messed with my Tv cable but eh. Whe raceing on the highway maybe try less throttle. Feel the shift point. Just my opinion.

Well this truck wasnt exactly made to be some sort of highway battling car. If you want that, buy a BMW. I dont know about you, but Ive NEVER lost a 0-60 race with this thing. 60-90 or so, thats a different story. It does hold up pretty damn well though for being such a brick.

i have never been in a syclone on the highway i have only driven in one on the main street. the reasone i ask this is because i heard everyone saying they got beat by da da da on the highway and i'm just wondering why. plus the one i drove was way way way out of tune. but give me an example of 60-100 stock truck vs 60-100 in a larger turbo say like a 20g or a PTE51 or something like that. what else would improve 60-100. if 0-60 is so good then all i have to do is make 60-120 good then i am gonna sit back and relax.

so bigger turbo and what else? how much boost can you run on stock shortblock? what about alky injection like on GN's?

I think those diacom files used to be on Sean Morris' website. That was when him and Dabney were in the ty together. I don't remember the race but I think the top speed was either 156 or 157. Maybe Sean (Tyndago) could shed more light on it.

If those files could be obtained I would be quite interested in viewing them. This is the first time it occurred to me that a datamaster WOT run could last longer than 13 or 14 seconds

I beleive that these are diacom files. Guys correct me if I am wrong but I dont think Datamaster existed back then.
