widest tire possible?

I bought some KMC Venoms with 235/40/R17 Nitto 555's, I don't really like the width of these especially in the rear. The wheels are 17x8's. Is it possible to put a 255 or even 275 on a 8" wide wheel?

You are wrong. My mustang has 17 by 8 inch wheels and I fit 275 bfg drag radials on them just fine. They buldge suspiciously but they fit nonetheless.

Looking at the specs on:

They recommend at least a 9" wide rim for the 275/40-17.

well, sure 275s will fit if you can stick them on there. Tthough don't be surprised if they come flying off. :roll:
