My dad had a 90' S-10 that did the same thing. must be a GM trait.

the ground breaks down in the combination switches and the ground is weak and thats why they come on ,on the newer s10s u will hear the relay clicking under the dash

Yeah....I heard you have to remove the steering wheel to fix it? PITA.

I just pulled the wiper fuse....I don't drive it in the rain anyways and you could always pop it back in if you need it.

ahh yes...... the phantom wipe...... its an s10 trait....

Yup, its a well known phenomenom.
I believe it is the contacts in the wiper stalk switch.
Replacement involves breaking down the entire column.
Mine does it and I just laugh. Got bigger fish to fry I guess.

One of those "while I'm in there mods" I'll do with a MoMo wheel and steadfast steel colum collar.

No need to do a complete column breakdown to fix.Just use a new stalk,{the handle only}.It pulls straight out.The only wires are for the cruise control.Below the column disconnect the cruise wire harness. They are three very thin ones. Attach a thin piece of wire to the end of the harness that goes back into the column, and pull the switch handle away and out of the column until the attached wire appears from the hole of the turn switch. Attach the new cruise wire to the tracer wire and pull back down through the column. Snap the new handle in place hook up the cruise wire. Done. I have done this many times. It really pays when you flat rate!

that only replaces the stalk not the switch, and yeah on the older s10s it is a pin in the ass

The problem is the switch in the stalk.

Huh? The only switch in the stalk is the cruise control switch. Are you sure changing that will fix the 'phantom wipes'?

That would be great news. I replaced the wiper switch (the one inside the column) and it did NOT fix my phantom wipe problem. Can you explain how the cruise switch affects the wipers? Inquiring minds want to know.....!

Re: Wipers with a mind of their own

When I first bought my Typhoon it did the wiper thing pretty often when I turned on a turn signal. I noticed a while ago that it hasn't done it in quite a while and I didn't fix anything involving the arm. Weird.

Isn't the physical switch for the wiper delay in the stalk too? I have considered that if it were loose, the delay pot could be shorting out (especially when you push on the stalk for the turn signal), turning the wipers on. I've been hearing about the switch in the column for a long time, but some random instinct still makes me think it could be the stalk itself, especially if it's when you're putting pressure on the stalk.

Re: Wipers with a mind of their own

Add mine to the list here. But it started doing it only after I replaced the wiper motor.

Ontop of that, mine stop where even they choose to. If I do the "mist" thing and dont hold it down, they will stop where ever I let off the switch. Would this fix that as well?

Add another truck to the list of turn signal wiper activation. HA
