Won't idle !!!!

So I my Typhoon running a couple of days ago. I initially tore it down for stalling (162k miles). The throttle tab was bent and it kept running @ 1100 rpm. I found blown intake gaskets and broken vacuum lines, so I assumed I had found the stalling problem . I rebuilt the entire motor, turbo, replaced coolant temp sensor, knock sensor, plugs (UR5 @.28"), ign.wires,cap,rotor and ignition coil (all MSD), had injectors sent out and cleaned (but they were sticking on initial startup from sitting in a plastic bag for 4 months), new oil cooler lines, water pump, alternator, starter (hi torque), A/C compressor, dryer, orifice tube, upper and lower radiator hoses, heater core, heater hoses, PCV hoses and valves, new intercooler pump and hoses,cleaned and fixed all the ground wires, cleaned the throttle body and plennum (all carbon deposits GONE)--------------and it still stalls.

It will run fine on cold start up for 1-2 min then just shut off like someone turned off the key. It will start right up, but if you try to put it into gear it stalls instantly. I can power brake it to keep it running. I bent the throttle tab back to stock after the rebuild because the IAC was at 0. I checked on a scanner now (when it idles) and it stays at about 8-9 (which is probably still a little low). I swapped out a rebuilt ECM and no change.The fuel pump is not loosing power. I'm thinking weak signal from pickup coil, but doubt it.
ANY CLUES anyone??????? GRRRRRRRRR

what kinda fuel pressure are you seeing? what kind of FPR are you using?

I put a billet adjustable fuel pressure regulator on it and have it set at 42-43 psi vac hose off and plugged. There is some play in the throttle body (worn shaft) but i dont think it is the only problem. it idle good until it stalls., Not a rough idle.

BTW, it is not running lean (i.e.vacuum leak), It is in closed loop and O2 sensor has very nice wave pattern even at idle.

Timing set to 0 with tan wire disconnected?

When it does idle, what is the rpm?

Timing set @0 with tan/black disconnected. Idle is 700-750 in park. Module is one of my guesses

Mike, Do you still have the EGR valve ? Do you have the repair manuals ? If not then I can bring my manuals. It could be any of the following.

1. Map

2. Throttle shaft leak or binding

3. IAC valve

4. EGR valve

about 5 other things.

Try replacing IAC. Had lots of similar issues with a TPI car not idling, stalling when going into gear etc. Replacing IAC sloved my issue.

what is your throttle position voltage also. maybe be too low.

New ECM didn't fix the problem nor did replacing the Module (oem part on the module). Getting really frustrated. May try a distributor Monday ( for the pickup coil and trigger ). Any other ideas?

if you still have an egr, try disconnecting the vac. line to it and plugging it, ive had problems in the past with the vac. solenoid sticking. it doesnt cost anything to try

Tried disconnecting EGR. No help. I may try Distribautor or IAC then???? Map. It is easier for me to replace parts than digging out a manual and a lab scope.I can return them hee-hee.That is unless I have to replace everything. I guess I'm just lazy.On a scope everything looks fine. On a scanner, everything looks fine. It idles perfect- O2 switching, iac counts within spec, all sensors normal- then it stalls. Gets worse as it warms up. And instantly stalls with a load. (I.e. Put it in gear.)

I don't think its MAP-related. ECU should work w/o MAP at all, so there won't be such cut-outs if it starts.

Do you have any alarm system (I dunno how you guys name it in the US )? If not, then my bet is on the distributor.

Although this truck had a lot of miles on it when I bought it (162k). 2 things I liked about it. 1) no aftermarket sh*t. All stock. 2) no rust - has spent it's whole life in so cal.

We pulled the distributor today (a rebuilt one was in it already). Turning it by hand it had no "pulses" from the magnets. The new rebuilt unit had definate strong pulse when the magnets ligned up with the pickup. Put it in, idles now. Not perfect, but it is a 4.3.
