Wrong CAS Lower IC

Hey Guys,

Just getting around to installing the CAS Lower IC water cooler that I bought a few years ago. I fitted it up and it looks like I'm F'ed. I must have gotten one of Tony's 1st ones that has the In/Out connections on the Drivers side. This was found to be unworkable because it runs into the Steering box and he then switched the ports to the Pass. side on later models.

So, does anyone have the right one that they aren't using any more, like maybe U went A/A or something ? Or maybe I could use it as an Aux along w the stocker ? Just what I need - more complication.

John,

U mean so the hoses are facing down instead of up ? That would expose the pump and hoses some, altho' I am stock height on the truck. Just checked it and I would need new brackets to do that. I'm not sure I could flip it around 180 because the the draincock would be on the up side.

I think the bracket pads are welded offset, but even if that's the case, it's a simple fix (bracket extensions or new ones alltogether). FWIW, I have one (slightly used) that has the outlets positioned properly, that I'd be willing to trade if need be.

brass 90' fittings fixed the problem for me on my old Typhoon. Tony sent them to me for free...

Previous to that I had used a PVC 90' fitting from Home Repot that worked for 9 miles. If you could find a 90' Brass fitting you're good.

Yes, Ryan, from what I've heard, the temp rating of PVC is about 150 F.

I was just looking at it and had another idea. Right now the brackets mount on the 2 bolt holes that have nuts welded inside the frame. If I move the whole IC forward ~ 2" then the front hole can now mount to the bumper strap if I drill a hole. Then I don't think it will interfere w the Str Box.

Finally figured out how to mount it. I made new brackets out of 2" Alum angle iron. That way I could move the IC Rad forward 2" and away from the steering box and avoid shimming. Like any custom fab it took a while.

Much sturdier (1/8" vs 3/32") and bigger than the flimsy things that came from CAS. I'm putting the Shurflow over on the platform that's goes in front on the Pass frt tire. The platform that came w the ATR batt Relo kit.

I did notice that NAPA had a much thicker, better quality 3/4" heater hose.

Steve,

What pump is that - the Jabsco ? That's fairly small, so it won't block much airflow, but the Shurflow is so big that I think it would block some airflow in that location. That's why I put it away from the IC radiator.

The brackets have wide holes and allow U to tilt the radiator at about any angle. However with too much angle, it may hang down too low and maybe get hit. How low did U guys allow the lower radiator to hang ?

Lynn,

Yep, it's a Jabsco. But, if you were to incorperate a brass 90* into the bottom fitting like I did, then set the angle of the whole unit in the truck and make it so the elbow comes about 3/8" from hitting the steering box, it will be angled not far from the stock position. i used the angled aluminum mounting brackets that came with it. they kinda fit jooky, but work fine for me. i used lock washers on the side screws and they haven't came loose on me yet.

You still have many options to plumb your system from that point, on. You can even go as far as buying molded heater hoses- with 90's, and other bends in 'em already. the guy at kragen let me go behind his counter and sift through all molded heater hoses and choose the ones i wanted. kinda pricey, but came in handy for me in a few areas.

As far as the unit hitting stuff when you drive, mine does sometimes when i park and pull up too far and hit the (so-called) scoop on a parking block from time to time. it bends but hasn't broken, yet. (gonna make a bigger one with sides, one of these days) At the height it's at now, it misses speed bumps. the key is remembering it's there, i guess. here's the best pic i have on file. you can see the scoop is kinda bent down on the right. no biggie though, i just reach up underneath and bend it back.
