5 pinion billet planetary for the 4472

Re: 5 pinion billet planetary for the 4472

If anyone is looking for the front case bushing, there was a HUGE error at Allomatic and the front case bushings for the BW4472/BW1372 are all WRONG. They made the INSIDE diameter of the bushing the size the OUTSIDE diameter was supposed to be.

George,
I received one of the wrong ones(front case bushing) in my rebuild kit. I just left the original one in there for now it can't go back together until everything arrives anyway...no big deal.

Something I wanted you to know. You guys by doing this supported a small American "ma and pa" machine shop during a time when everything is going overseas to make it CHEAPER instead of better. Kevin is the owner and he was very particular and it shows. Every single unit was hand fit during the clearance check while I stood there. It was WORTH the wait.

That is nice to hear. People need to support the businesses making all the special parts for us. Support your Sy/Ty vendors too or they will all go away!

I'm sending you another one with your planet. WIT was very sorry about the problem. It wasn't their fault but Allomatic, who she tried to source the bushings from, really screwed the pooch. I promise you'll have the correct one in your planetary setup.

Here's the sun gear shafts:

Planets:
100_7849.sized.jpg

Everything laid out:
100_7851.sized.jpg

Just showing the 32 spline input shaft in the sun gear shaft:
100_7856.sized.jpg

When you get them, take this bushing and polish it with 320 grit sand paper and clean all the chips out with compressed air:
100_7848.sized.jpg

See the recess in the above pic? Make SURE you take some vasoline or transgel and stick that thrust washer in there. Same goes for the thrust washer that rides on the other side of the planet(that's the smaller one).
The fit is perfect. No slop. If your input shaft isn't sliding into the planetary, be patient and get it straight. Stock had slop and it'd fall in. These ALL go in. We sat there and fit test them just like you see in the pic.
DO NOT TAKE THE PLANETARIES APART!!!!
They are ONLY to be disassembled if BROKEN!!!
I've blue loctited and torqued all the bolts to 10 foot pounds. All they do is hold the back cover onto the dowels. The dowels and the pinion shafts take all the shear. The bolt is a 1/8" hex 1/4 20 bolt with a low profile head. Very clean setup.
Blow off the planetaries with compressed air to get any cardboard dust off of them and then soak them in ATF for about 10 minutes. This will prelube all the needle bearings in the assembly. Remember the stock didn't have any bearings.

Here's the correct case bushing:
100_7857.sized.jpg

Here's what it looks like. It has a slit on one side. When you drive it into the case, the slit closes up:
100_7858.sized.jpg

I'm sending you one of these, Keith, with your planet kit. I apologize for the wrong one being in yours:oops:

:tup:I paid just over $24K. That's including, stock components new that got cut all to hell and half the pinions that he screwed up the first time. I lost money on this but the end result is badass. If you crazy people drove Honda's this would be so much cheaper to do this stuff.
Oh, and to all you ass hats that run your f***ing mouths about me not developing stuff. Look at this stuff and STF up. This stuff is every bit on par with Mike Lee's creations.
These aren't bars and plates welded together by no stetch.

:1010::drool: If I can make my funds allow are there any of these that are still going to be available? They look GREAT!

Re: 5 pinion billet planetary for the 4472

I paid cash for some extra components to be made to allow the rebuilding of any units sold. So if someone trashes bearings or something by running it without lube or something, there are components.
PM me for availability. Right now there is ONE complete unit left. Sun gear, planetary, complete. And parts for some others. Kevin will make individual components for me now that the program in in and finalized but it costs a little more. I did these just to get an outstanding piece out there that was needed. I made zilch on this but just to have these things sitting here is amazing. You guys will see when you get them.

Brandon, that's your input shaft you see in the above pics.

George and Kevin,
Thanks to both for all the hard work on these! It is almost a shame to hide such beautiful pieces inside the transfer case.

Re: 5 pinion billet planetary for the 4472

Thanks for all the work George. The parts look AWESOME :)

Just to clarify, exactly what is included with a "kit", and what else do we need to get in order to have these work?

Thanks!

You just put them in. You get the sun gear shaft and the planetary. . In your case, all of your stuff is new. So pull the "press fit" bearing off using a gear puller, slide off the spacer, slide off the cog for the front drive, slide off the viscous. Grab the new sun gear. Slide the viscous onto the new sun gear, then the cog the chain rode on, then the spacer, then press the bearings back on.
Take the large thrust washer and put transgel on it and stick it inside the sun gear shaft right here:
100_7848.sized.jpg

pull out the stock planetary.
Put transgel on the smaller thrust washer and stick it to the area designated on the output shaft for it:
76_G.sized.jpg

78_G.sized.jpg

Make sure that washer stays there and doesn't drop. If it does, the input shaft won't seat right where it rides on the needle bearings in the output shaft and it'll hold everything in the case "up". So when you try to put the cover on, it won't go down. Do not "force" the cover on with the bolts.
Here's a shot of the viscous assembly seated correctly:
86_G_001.sized.jpg

See how deep that viscous sits down in the ring gear? If yours isn't sitting that deep, it's not seated correctly. Fix it before proceeding further.
Here's how it looks all lined up:
84_G.sized.jpg

These are stock pics I took of the basic teardown and reassembly and I'll replace these with the pics I took of units I'm working on now.
Thank you guys for doing this. This is really something unique that only a few of you will have.
All of my CORRECT front case bushings came in at 6:30PM Friday night, so everyone else's orders that bought reman kits with their planetaries, your orders will go out tomorrow.
I saw on some other forums that they don't know about this tranfer case.
It's run into the high 7s low 8s.
I KNOW 1750 HP has been put through it, but I don't think he's run his at the track yet.
Yes. 1750HP/1150 foot pounds of torque. Insane. Nothing wrong with the transfer case. Put it to bed already.

Re: 5 pinion billet planetary for the 4472

George,

Do you have a list of individual transfer case parts as well as pricing? or is there a kit? When I get around to installing the billet planetary I'm sure I will need a few things.

thanks,

Yep. I'll put up all the prices.
Most guys got bearing and seal kits, thrust washers, bushings (that was fun), chains, and viscous setups.

Re: 5 pinion billet planetary for the 4472

Built 4 of these today and I can tell you that they fit PERFECT.
I'm very pleased with assembly. I built 3 units with 32 spline PG input shafts and 1 unit with a 27 stock BW input shaft. Again I appreciate everyone's patience during this GP.
We've been hit with an ice storm here in southwestern Ohio so I'm not shipping the built units out today. It's not worth having a wreck. UPS isn't shipping Friday so it will be Monday when the built transfer cases go out. You guys all have a very happy Christmas!!!

Re: 5 pinion billet planetary for the 4472

I'm getting emails and PM's. EVERYTHING has shipped but the transfer cases. UPS took all the KITS FROM the shipping center TODAY. UPS is NOT doing anything FRIDAY. So it will be next week before you guys start seeing them unless you are within 1 day of Ohio (Michigan for example). UPS is just unloading, no new stuff. It's the holidays, be patient!!!
