Re: cam and heads

Get some L35 heads, they bolt right on & flow much better than the stock heads.

Go w/a bigger cam w/approx 204 duration @ .050 .450 -.480 lift on a 114 lobe center .

Its just a blazer...
Re: cam and heads

You should be able to find the heads in a junkyard. I found mine in a 93 Blazer with CPI. I think the casting number ends with 181. You can do a search for L35 casting numbers to get the exact numbers.

The L35's are nice heads to drop right in. If the combo is right, it can make some nice power. If you can afford to convert to VORTECs, make the switch - definitely worth the performance gains! That, and I happen to have a fully built set for sale ;)

Re: cam and heads

I took my L35's to 670hp, and some untouched VORTECS with 2.02/1.60 valves to 780+hp. Cam and heads are a part of the puzzle, but not the only part!

Re: cam and heads

If your heads do not flow, they will not make the power, it's a big,big part of the build.

What was done to your L-35's & what did they flow?

Re: cam and heads

bowl and blending...some runner work but not much. I will have to see if I can find the paperwork, but I think intake side flowed just under 200 and the exhaust was in the 140's. Not terribly impressive numbers, but the proof was in the times I ran last year and power it made before they let go.

To answer the OP's question, the L35's are a decent drop-in replacement that can net some gains. The VORTECs will, however, flow more with additional work to your intake manifold. All things being equal, I saw a 70HP jump with the exact same tune (fuel, boost, timing).
