I was in Canary Wharf, London after an interview on Weds night and I was waiting for the river taxi to get across the Thames and go home when a boat sailed past.

It was called the "Typhoon Clipper" and I thought that was kinda neat as i own a Ty. About 5 min later another one went past called the "Cyclone Clipper" and I got really very excited - probably mostly due to the 2 bottles of wine since my interview. I didn't think that there were any other machines with similar names such as our trucks.

Anyone seen any other vehicles called Cyclone/Typhoon?

I waited for the Sonoma Clipper but I guess that was long shot :D

yeah but Cyclone airplanes? I was interested in the pairing - lots of stuff independently, not paired up like that though.

The submarines used by the Soviet Union in the 1980s were the Typhoon Class. These were the subs featured in the book/movie The Hunt For Red October

yeah but where was the Cyclone class? See what I mean - what pairs of machines other than GMC trucks and now these two hydrofoils have used the name Cyclone and Typhoon? I am omitting the incorrect spelling deliberately ;)

We have the Typhoon jet which whoops ass over the F 22 (any takers :D )but no Cyclone yet :D

So yesterday during work I'm sitting in on a presentation about combustion turbines and the presenters mention that the previous model names of their units include "Cyclone" "Typhoon" as well as other natural disasters. Immediately after the words Cyclone and Typhoon are mentioned my boss and one of my co-workers both look over at me grin.

Shortly after I remembered this thread, so yeah there is at least one other instance of an organization using the Cyclone and Typhoon names. But not for vehicles.

Both stages of stator vanes are cast as a complete ring to minimize losses and simplify assembly."

Not a vehicle but the Pepsi rep. did bring some info about this a couple of days ago....

Ha. Do you think there are soda enthusiasts somwhere (on their own forum?) saying "Holy cow...there's a truck named the same as our favorite soda!!!" :rotf:

Do you know what I thought of when I saw this picture....Mike Campbell (SY2932). Anyone who knows him just knows he will be clutching one of these in a 2 liter size walking around at a SY/TY meet. :rotf:
