120# injectors will get you to over 800hp at 43# base fuel pressure. That is a nice injector to tune.

550rwhp netted me a 10.75 in a 3,980# Typhoon. That was with a 62mm Bullseye Power cast wheel turbo. Much has changed with their newer BatMo turbos. Call me if you have any questions.

Re: E85 people ENTER

Here is my E85 progress. Double walbros. 10mm ID hose SAE30R10 fuel injection line submeragble alcohol safe (This stuff is not cheap!!!) Im useing a 3/8" brass Y (I think the Y will flow better than a T) I think it would be better using fuel injection clamps on the hose, but will the hose clamps work good enough? The way I have the pumps clamped they are not moving at all. Very secure.
Input please from others that have built one.

Interesting. Did you by chance look in to a "Y" block? What size Walbros are those? I haven't seen one in a while, they look kind of small. Also, what did you pay for the hose? I bought true submersible fuel line rated for all fuels and it looked totally different and cost me $20/ft.

Hopefully you get it all together and it turns out good.

Re: E85 people ENTER

The pumps are 255. The hose makes them look small its 3/8 inch. I want flow. I paid $50 a foot for that hose.

It's a good thing you sought out true submersible hose. I had two hoses that came with the Walbro pump split after a few months. Irritating to deal with. How are you going to run the pumps? Both on full time?

Re: E85 people ENTER

Yeah Im not taking chances with this setup. I have too much time and money into it. Im going to run them full time. Thats how Nolan does it. I think if one relay fails I have another one still working.

Who knows a good place to get alcohol rated O rings? Im also wondering how the stock regulator or the AFPR will stand up to E85. Im sure technically they are not rated for it as well.

I had the same delema, I ended up spend 200 bucks on a racetronix double pump harness with an 8lb pressure switch to turn the second pump on into boost. seems to work great so far, and it was easy to install.

Re: E85 people ENTER

Hmm... good advice, thank you. Are you refering to the connector or the part that passes through the top of the sending unit will not handle the current? That was my main concern is the currnet draw.
I will reinforce the the sending unit brace. Great idea.

I did a bunch of research before doing my build (Nolan's expertise helped immensely). Aeromotive does carry a bunch of E85/E98 rated o rings, I believe you should only use viton o rings with any type of alcohol, I found some at a local hydrolic shop. I would also only use an AFPR that is rated for use with alcohol. As i stated in a earlier comment do not use any paper element fuel filters on your system, only stainless steel. Hope this is helpfull.

Re: E85 people ENTER

I realize this is dead, but I thought it would be a good place to spread what I've learned from running this crazy fuel. Keep in mind my experiance is with a turbo 3800 powered blazer, rather than a turbo 4300 typhoon.

First off, its increadibly forgiving. I run this motor insanly lean and it seems to be happy. Idle is pegged 19-21 afr, and cruise is around 17-19:1. I would have much rather tuned an E85 powered truck rather than a 93 powered truck the first time.

For WOT It seems to like it anywhere between 10.6:1-14.5:1. That sounds retarded and I'm sure theres some super science behind there that is just over my head but the motor seems happy anywhere in between those 2 places. litterally, pulls just as hard, no knock, seems really happy. This is also keeping in mind that I am running pretty low timing (28*). I havnt adventured hard into timing yet, and wont really until the roads thaw. It seems to prefer leaner, although I am not comfortable enough to let it run much north of 12.0:1. I'm going to guess when I start putting the screws to it its going to want some more fuel.

Cold start; no problems. I started the truck last night with a half dead battary at it was 10*F outside. It fired immedietly with no issues at all and hasnt given me any issues yet. I am running 100lb injectors.

I did have a fuel pump die on me, although I think it was a defective pump out of the box. it was a Deatschwerks 300 series E85 rated pump. I replaced it with the secondary pump (running just one for now) and I noted that it is wayyy quieter than the original one ever was so...its hard to say on that one. I have several friends who have been running the same pumps for years with the stuff and didnt believe me when I said mine died.

E85 smells good.

People often think I am confused at gas pumps when I am putting it into the truck.

When I pulled it apart I took a look in the tank, and it still looked brand new. The filters were still clean on the pumps, and everything looked great. No obvious signs of rusting or anything being corroded. Filler neck rubber was still solid and not turning to goo, everything was great.

It seems to like a LOT of timing when cruising and idling. I'm running around 56* timing for cruise and its acting really well. light accel I keep around 40*.

Re: E85 people ENTER

yea that number seems crazy, I was suprised when I started doing some research and found that the lsx-lsJ-LNF guys had already been doing numbers like that and I was stumbling onto already well known information. apparintly 55* is the norm for trying to get decent fuel econ.

Re: E85 people ENTER

what a great thread i also will start running e85 gas on my ty built my biggest dilemma is, if i should run a 2 walboro in tank that i already have . ore go with a bigger fuel pump.will it hold the power that I'm thinking of making 650-800 range to the wheels . i have bs3 and 160 injectors I'm running dash8 in 6out .will i starve in the dyno or will be enough .has anybody done that power with e85 and 2 walboro pump in tank.help is neededddddddddddddddddddddd:tup:

You will never get near 800 at the wheels with those pumps and little lines running e85. I made 700+ at the crank, I have an Aeromotive eliminator pump in a sumped stock tank, -10 feed line to two -8s, one to each fuel rail. -10 return.

Re: E85 people ENTER

2 deatschwerk 300's could do it for the same price. I think you might be suprised at how much you can flow through your existing line. I'd like to see you reach the point where you have to say "the fuel line just isnt enough"

Re: E85 people ENTER

i thought dash 8 would be enought to do it .my friend has a magnafuel system it pro tuner750.external gas pump he is selling it to me .for a good price he never use it bought it and sold the car .

Re: E85 people ENTER

800hp at the wheels is about 1000hp at the crank on our trucks. You asked, i'm giving you my opinion based on what I have learned about running e85. I would rather see a fuel system that is too big than one that is too small. I like the big single pumps, but not sure how much fuel the Magnaflow will provide you. I would leave some room for error when running e85 by building a system that is too big. You can then always turn down the base fuel pressure. Hope it works out for you......

Re: E85 people ENTER

Hope it works out for you......

should go wthout saying,

couple points I forgot to mention. Alot of this is in responce to quickstop

OIL- It seems like its not effecting my oil THAT MUCH. i had an issue initially and ended up with alot of fuel in it and had to change but...no other issues. I would say though, it seems like a tiny bit is making its way into the oil and I cant tell if its normal or not (E85 smells so much different) I would say to change the oil more often though, of coarse I say that with any engine you beat the **** out of. I decided I'm going to change it pretty often so I've been running rotellaT turbo diesel oil 5w40 or whatever it is. also, bad luck with fram, I am now a purilator man.

FUEL Line. I've had really good luck with the steel braded PT line from anfittingsdirect.com, as well as their fittings. The stuff is cheap for what it is, and its kind of a pain to work with, but it does work and I have had no issues with it leaking or anything. I am also running one of their filters with success. I would say if you are planning to convert your truck I would look at that, I am running 6 An feed line and the same for return. not sure what the power limit is on it, but I know of a few people making well north of 600 wihtout issues. Also, I dont know what to say about the rubber parts of the line, at least in my case I am running steel braided, but only from the stock sending unit so...I am running a 3/8 nipple off the bac of my line and coupling it onto the sending unit nipple with a short piece of rubber line that is hose clamped on...I have this as short as possible, but its still autozone rubber line. I inspected this very closly when I pulled the tank down after this last year of running it to see how it was holding up, and it still looks fine, its not degrading in any way that I can tell. Still seems firm, ect.

PUMPS. Deatschwerks seem to be the best choice. doing a sump and everything is a nice thing to do, but I havnt had any issues with my stock sending unit with a double set up, then again I havnt started to make more then 600hp yet, although I doubt I'll have any issues.

I dont actually know what I am running for o-rings on my injectors, although I dont think they are anything special. They came with them when I bought them from fuelinjectionconnection.com. My autozone sending unit o-ring is slightly stained after a year of use, but it seems to be find otherwise. I have had my injectors out a few times and the rings seem fine. as far as spilling it and it eating through anythng i dont think you have anything to worry about, although I did get it all over my hands a few days ago and they are still a little dry.

FPR. I am actually still running the stock one without any issues. again realise that this is out of a 99 grand prix and not a typhoon, although I can'timagine them being much better.

Re: E85 people ENTER

I got some numbers today from Nolan tuning with pump gas and E85. These numbers are from his engine dyno.
Im happy with hose numbers so far. See what she does on high boost tomorrow. Shooting for the 22 to 25 psi range

Hi Keith,

Just a update, on pump has with 14psi and 14 degrees timing motor made 450hp and 600 lbs.
On E85 with 14psi 490hp and 655 lbs. with 20 degrees of timing. Tomarrow we will finish off the high boost tuning.

Nolan
