as some of you know i and my dad work for GM. he, more than i, get the low down on some projects. here's one of the latest.
GM has 7, 2 door blazers at its Proving grounds with LS1's. Auto's, some suspension work done. and 17's. There is a guy my dad knows that was involved with the project, and talked with him extensively about this. what GM is thinking, according to my dad's contact, is to take back the mid-size sport utility category. they gave the "go-ahead" to a few people and as you can see, used LS1's in a new blazer.
so far they HAVE NOT detuned the engine, still re-mains right out of the box from the camaros. Turns out GM made alot of extra LS1's to use as base engines for a few projects and this is one of them.
They recently let a magazine come out and take a few pictures of 2 of the Blazers (both black). i forgot what magazine now, but they gave GM a thumbs up for showing " guts " .
my dad asked if this is going to be a likely project that will see the light of day. the guy said " yes its feasable, but getting GM to mass produce these is going to be very very hard considering the market right now is sport trucks and not sport SUVS" he did however say " Yes some will be made but the # will not be determined for another 8 months "
He said also " they dont want a repeat of the Typhoon, meaning too much effort and not enough to show for it" ... k i dont get this one.
My personal thinking on this whole subject, is that GM is likeing the idea, they wont send them out to a sub-company like PAS, if they do them, it will be all GM with a de-tuned LS1 making about 260-270hp. but thats my opinion.
in closing i'll say this " dont you think its weird Pontiac is being a little too quiet lately?" keep an eye on that brand. they have more tricks coming up than all the GM brands put together.
