GM's small secret

as some of you know i and my dad work for GM. he, more than i, get the low down on some projects. here's one of the latest.

GM has 7, 2 door blazers at its Proving grounds with LS1's. Auto's, some suspension work done. and 17's. There is a guy my dad knows that was involved with the project, and talked with him extensively about this. what GM is thinking, according to my dad's contact, is to take back the mid-size sport utility category. they gave the "go-ahead" to a few people and as you can see, used LS1's in a new blazer.

so far they HAVE NOT detuned the engine, still re-mains right out of the box from the camaros. Turns out GM made alot of extra LS1's to use as base engines for a few projects and this is one of them.

They recently let a magazine come out and take a few pictures of 2 of the Blazers (both black). i forgot what magazine now, but they gave GM a thumbs up for showing " guts " .

my dad asked if this is going to be a likely project that will see the light of day. the guy said " yes its feasable, but getting GM to mass produce these is going to be very very hard considering the market right now is sport trucks and not sport SUVS" he did however say " Yes some will be made but the # will not be determined for another 8 months "

He said also " they dont want a repeat of the Typhoon, meaning too much effort and not enough to show for it" ... k i dont get this one.

My personal thinking on this whole subject, is that GM is likeing the idea, they wont send them out to a sub-company like PAS, if they do them, it will be all GM with a de-tuned LS1 making about 260-270hp. but thats my opinion.

in closing i'll say this " dont you think its weird Pontiac is being a little too quiet lately?" keep an eye on that brand. they have more tricks coming up than all the GM brands put together.

pontiac hasnt been quite, they have the G-force.. which builds on pontiacs most successful platform.

and a ls1 in a trailblazer, i would doubt it.

Gm just doesnt have the balls, i mean, inless GM has completely changed its morals and ideas, its not likely

Like I said before I trust insider info., and he said blazer, not trailblazer, from what I understand, gm has other plans (at least in concept) for the trailblazer.

now, only if gm will bring back the nomad...

Keep us posted dave.

I agree with the insider info, i mean, Im just kinda not gettin my hopes up.. and if GM were to make a s-10 blazer with a ls1 in it id be surprised as hell, considering they are killing the whole platform in a year or two(which pisses me off)....

anyhow, it would be nice.

damn the blazer extreme hasn't even been out that long. Wonder if they're doing that because of the 4door version of the s-series pickup line? Dave any info?

reminds me of the blazer ss that was on the east coast power tour a couple of years ago. lt4 under the hood.

For those of you who didnt see it, they also produced a standard cab 1500 with a 510 cu motor, awd.

Lots of experiments that never see the light of day. too bad they usually have to be crushed.

I don't know about the blazer, but chevy's s-10's pu replacement is going to be called the Colorado, due out in 2004, and using a 5 cylinder based on the inline 6, that just came out, GMC's version is rumored to be available with a turbo, also...I think that story is in March "Truckin" Magazine, and listed it as a go for production... I'll look again and verify, I think they also have a website...I'll go check...

This evening, I was at the Chicago Auto Show. I was VERY impressed with the Pontiac display. Hopefully they will produce some of there concepts they had on display.

Grand Prix concept
Boneville concept
Grand Am "Hot wheels" concept
Vibe GT-R (no joke)
Solstice (I think this is how to spell it; 2 seater sports coupe)

All of these concepts where very nice.

I think that the HOt Wheels version of the Grand Am is currently available. It is supercharged as well.

ok.. so although the S-10 series is being killed.. GM has NOT, as of yet, signed the death certificate on the Blazer. they sell alot of them.

Now as for the New trucks coming out, its really unlikely that 5cylinder engine is going to be the main platform engine. The colorado i dont have much info about, never really kept up on it. However, there ARE new trucks and they WILL be using "a version" of the I6 trailblazer engine. Also slated for production, and ive seen some of these plans already, are the 327ci 5.3 engines. the 5 cylinder's have come under fire from alot of the old engineers at GM, not to mention some of the execs. they dont want to see a " volvo clone" engine. the 5.3 was brought to the table be the same engineer who helped work on the camaro's back in 1969.

right now its very very hard to say what engines will be in what trucks, there are about 10 engines they are all looking at, 2 i know of WILL be put into production, the de-tuned I6 and the 5.3 the question is.. what truck will have what? i'll keep my ears open, and keep you guys informed.

But as i 1st stated about the Blazer, some WILL be made with the detuned LS1. the 7 that they have now, 3 of them GM is keeping 2 have been sold to GM execs, the other 2 are not determinded. i think they are keeping 4 to re-tune and more than likely send them out to various car shows to get a response from people. GM thinks this will be better than the response it got for the "Typhoon 2 and Syclone 2". and NO.. GM will not farm out their projects anymore, unless its a very very specialty car.

in closing... i want to ask a question.
" who really thinks the Camaro is dead?"

ok so i cant contatin myself and i have to blab.

my Father got home from his trip out to MI and came back with some bad ass news.

originally schedueled for 2007 to mark the 40th anaversary, its being pushed up to 2005. camaro makes a come back. there are only artists drawings right now, and 1 clay model that seems to be the talk of the design division out there. designed from the 67-68 camaro, with a refreshed look of a 00 car. engines havent even been discussed yet. just know this.. camaro is not dead, but it will be very limited production and very pricey.

in the corvette realm. the 04 corvette is getting a face lift. i havent seen any pics yet, but the front and rear of the car get a new look. this project is heavily guarded so i dont have much to tell about it. but the Z06 engine is going to start to be the platform corvette engine with the 380hp engine for the normal vette and the Z06 will start to squeeze 405+.

I want more news on trucks, hell if I could get a 2dr blazer xtreme with a factory ls1 in it, id take out one hell of a loan just to get it. That would be a dream second only to me owning a ty.

im a truck guy, not much of a fan of cars..

eitherway, you rule for sharing any info

well my b-in-law said the blazer is being scrapped due to some crash issues they have and the ease of turning over or flipping and even says the new ones have warning stickers in the sunvisors! He is a car slaesman at Friendly Chevolet. Any body want a car or truck go ask for him his name is Travis and tell him Marc sent you! He can fix you up with a good deal!

i dont know if you guys have noticed..but any SUV after the year 95 is MANDATED to have that sticker on the sunvisors, some 94's and 93's have them.. even BMW have them. its nothing new.

as for the factory LS1 extreme, i dont know. they used the regular blazers just as a platform to see the handling and form. engine fits tight, but its workable with respects to fitting your hands and working on somethings.

i'll try and get more info about as much of the trucks/suv's as i can. but let me say this.. anytime you see a SUV or truck from GM in a magazine.. please please write in to GM. beleive it or not they do value opinions in what to make. Hell thats why they only produced a few C3's this year. not enough response from people.. Ford makes 1 stupid F-150 with a supercharger and people rave about it.

i guaranty you guys anything Ford can do, GM will do better, they just need to hear about it. its only a few clicks of a mouse away, just send an email.

The only thing that Pontiac has or probably will is the Buick SC3800 with the exception of Chevy TA which is on it's way out.

Not slamming ya just stating what i see.
