Input needed on Sy value

Hey Guys,
Back when I first joined we had the tragedy of MyClone. A few weeks later I had to make a post about another member we lost here in Wyoming.... his name was Ron.

Anyhow, Ron's Sy is up for sale and I'm thinking about buying it.

The rundown is....

- 100k miles
- relatively new paint (black with grey cladding)
- factory wheels are in OK/marginal shape
- some cladding issues (see pics)
- interior OK - new headliner.
- engine compartment - things kind of thrown together
- some underside rust mostly surface.

- has been sitting for 3 years
- IC system is dried up and needs flushed/new pump
- has an upper motor knock (I had the service manager of our local GMC dealership - father of a guy who used to work for me- come listen to it tonight) Sounds like a lifter issue. We're going to dump a can of EOS into it tomorrow morning and see if it gets any better - maybe a pulled rocker stud

- has a Kenne Bell elbow with a cone filter
- atr battery relocate kit
- pit bull chip
- atr aux ic cooler

With the market the way it is and the condition of the truck I'm thinking it's only worth about 5k right now... any opinions??

I want to be fair to Ron's wife... he was a great guy - our FedX driver and a car guy.

Ah, funny camera angle.... it's an El Camino

There's also a 2005?? Harley V-Rod for sale for $8500.

I didn't ask about the El Camino.... I'm not an El Camino kind of guy.. I could find out for anyone interested... It's very nice.

I agree $5000 seems fair. The body looks to be better than average, but the potential engine work hurts the value. Where's the spare tire?

$5,000 ($6000 tops) seems to be a fair ballpark to me as well for the Sy...all things considered. I also am interested in the El Camino. Do you know the mileage on the HD V-Rod and if any mods were done to it? Thanks.

Here are the V-Rod pics T-Bone... send me a PM and I'll give you the owner's phone #. The bike has 5400 miles on it.... baby on the way so toy must go. I couldn't find a single scratch, nick, bug, smudge, etc.

Hey Ken,
The El Camino is pretty awesome... it's a '71 with '72 front fenders and grille, etc. Big block with aluminum heads, TH400, etc.

But, it's sold... with 5 buyers lined up behind the first guy. Sold for $16,500.

if its a real ls5 or ls6 car thats a great deal

I'd say no more than 5K....Cladding, rust, and looks like a Trans/TC leak of some sort. Flinging oil all over the underside in pic #2. Plus the motor work. Lifters however arnen't a huge concern if you get to it soon enough. Maybe just aout of adjustment. Getting to them is another story.Pray that it's on the driverside.

wow that V-Rod is my kinde of bike and yes a verry fair price for the sy id buy it for that price :tup::tup:

Yup, I agree. Only reason I'd buy it is to fix all that is wrong and it would then be a good starter Sy for a new owner. But don't know if I'd make any money on it.

....and the lifter noise is from the passenger's side :(

I'll shew Grant (Army buddy) the pics and see what he decides. He is in the market for a V-Rod....will be in touch either way and thanks again for taking the pics.

I think you could flip it at $5k. It really doesn't need much, and even if you had to pull the heads, you could get 'er to a well running stock state pretty reasonably.

I think you need to ask yourself this question - if it were somebody you didn't know from a hole in the wall, would you give them 5k for it? Would you buy it at all?

No prob T-Bone.... it really is in exceptional shape. Always stored in a heated garage, etc.
