Shaved Sy --rebuild thread

3rd time's a charm!! I hope

As many of you know my poor Sy that I spent 2.5yrs building lasted a whole 250 miles. Evidently the turbo filter I put on the turbo feed line got clogged with break in metal and took out the turbo by restricting the oil flow. This was further confirmed when the motor was broken down and gone through only to find a handful of aluminum at the bottom of the oil pan as well as what was in the filter and all over the motor internals. The rebuild began late due to some difficulties so unfortunately I will not be debuting the shaved Sy at Shindig but I am going to do a build thread this time. My plan is to have the truck totally complete by X-mas and it will probably be completed before then.
So far I have pulled the motor and totally broken it down. I received my new motor from John @ Xplicit Racing and I couldn't be happier, except for the fact that I don't know the specifics of the build as far as the cam and the C.R. The motor is a built four bolt main block with a nitrided & cryo'd crank, oliver H-beam with TRW pistons. I figured the C.R would be the same as my last motor until I took my Vortec heads the the machine shop to have them checked out, gasket matched, and possibly have them decked, to raise C.R. That was until I tried to measure the deck clearance and really couldn't even get a micrometer on it, Almost 0 deck clearance. By my calculations that put me where I wanted to be, 8.8:1 up from 8.1:1.
The build is going to be the same caliber of the exterior of the truck. Very unique, very fast show truck. As far as color scheme this time I hope to it all polished aluminum, stainless steel, and black with a minor amount of red accents.

Engine looks good.
I have about 3 hours into each cylinder head on a big block chevy and that's just prep for paint. The engine owner was ready to call the men in white coats when he saw what I was doing (it was not part of our original deal and just a surprise for him). Makes a huge difference in the final product. Glad to see someone else goes to the extreme.

Any reason you didn't shave the recessed lines in the hood to match the body?

should have base coat clear coated the block, or just kept right on going and polished the cast iron

That's a good idea, never thought of that but I am repainting the hood soon due to sags in the clear trying to bury moisture from the gun. Thanks for the idea and that will be done before the truck makes it's debut!!

Do Not re use your oil cooler if you are running one, get a new one and clean those oil cooler lines or replace them. Re using the oil cooler from last motor usually takes out your new motor. no matter what you do you will never be able to clean out your old oil cooler.

I was wondering what kind of wheels those were... Camaro wheels look pretty good.. Did you have to put spacers on the front?

Wheels are about 1mm out in the front, tires are about 3mm out; 285's on 8.5 rim. Rears need 3/8 or 10mm spacer to be 1mm out.

But in order to make them fit cost $250 to have .80 machined out of the center hub.

Disassembly and frame cleaning. Just doing the front for now, just don't feel like pulling the cab, I will after I get it running though.
