Re: Sub Boxes

I'd like to see more pics too. Why do you need to see more pics Marty? I thought I sent you my boxes? Planning something cool?

Re: Sub Boxes

I used to work for Advanced Auto Alarm and Car Stereo and would be more than willing to offer whatever advice or technical information I can. I'm planning a box for the SY right now with 2 - 10's but probably won't get started on the actual building until summer rolls around.

Re: Sub Boxes

i asked the same question few days back cuz i need bass in my SY and i was searchin and found a pretty sweet box from 'INFINITY" it holds 3 10" subs 1 real sub and 2 passive radiators and has a built in class D amp 250x1 looks like it bangs hard plus the dimensions are small as hell so u can still kick yer seats all the way back i found it on http://www.sounddomain.com/store things a steal at like $500, for the sound of 3 10's + box + amp just wire it up and yer done

This is what I did back in 1997 (I am the skinny one on the right)...set a WR in 1998....had lotsa fun....retired the car in 1999...hit a legal 168.9dB on 20KW....

SPECS...if you want them..

(4) Cerwin-Vega Stroker 15's
common-cavity enclosure tuned at 42Hz

I ran these on the subs (not at once, silly!)
(4) PPI A-1200.2's modified by Dennis Barnes (Alma Gates installer/engineer)
(4) Linear Power 4.1HV custom-built amplifiers
(8) HiFonics Zeus amps (72VAC @ 2ohms X 8 voice coils)

Was working on a deal with US AMPS before I retired, and was going to change to (2) Stroker 18's and the same power and hit a 170...this was back in the days of Brantley Waites and Team Pure Sound and stuff...I had lots of fun. Surprised many people. I was the first competitor to use ratcheting straps to keep the doors from flexing during the 'burp'...was one of a VERY select few who started competing and ended up my competing using the exact same box with no alterations at all, and still was in the top of my class. Used the same (albeit reconed several times!) subs, batteries, and alternator setup.

...every once in awhile I get the itch to build something again...

y'know...a pair of 12's in the Ty....

This was my 'Keep It Simple Stupid' in the SPL world....

Re: Sub Boxes

yeah...brings back memories...I remember going from the way the car looked in that picture, to the following year, reinforcing it to hit the numbers. It was a lot of work...a lot of the things that we did on my car were on the cutting edge (concrete floors, spray foam body panels to reduce flexing). Now I, too, am satisfied (sometimes) with my mostly stock system. But there are those days...

Re: Sub Boxes

Well, I started my sub sox for the SY. I mentioned earlier that I was using 10's but I changed plans and went to 8's because of space. Besides, they'll be more than enough for the small space in the cab of a SY.

I should have taken more pics but the resin gels up pretty quick and I was anxious to see if it was going to work. It seems to be pretty decent and if my calculations are correct I am am within .03 cu ft of the suggested enclosure volume for my speaker.

As you can see it will be form fitting around the center console and just an inch or so taller. The speaker faces aren't obstructed with the backs of the seats like most truck boxes. I should have a nice clean sound when completed.

All I have left to do is put the fiberglass around the inside for the needed strength. Then I'll sand it all down and paint. Then I'll put the subs in and fir it up.

Just ordered my 2 15" Ti eclipses, and a hifonics brutis amp. Well post pics of the box/amprack when done.
Where are you putting the 15s? In the bed? I'm trying to figure out what to do in mine and not hack everything up.

Thanks, not too sure about the amp(s) yet. I think I'll just put a board behind the carpet and mount to that. There also may be room under oneof the seats. I haven't really figured that out yet.

My 4 chanel amp is stable down to 2 ohms and bridgeable so as a temproary set-up, I was thinking about connecting the Sony Xplod stock upgrades in paralell right and left with High Pass filter. Then I'll bridge the other two chanels and use that for the subs with low pass filter.

will you be able to put you seat all the way back??

And YES, I can put the seats all the way back. That was a major concern when designing the box.

More pics would be cool. It looks like from that picture there would be no way that it would fit and keep your seats back. I like the design, very creative.

Re: Sub Boxes

looks very nice - any chance we can get a side view to see how deep it is.

PS - the marlboro had an amp under the drivers seat. Worked good plenty of room.

Re: Sub Boxes

It's smaller than it looks. The top is only 6 inches deep and the bottom is 9.5 inches. Maybe I'll ake a pic from the side so you can get a better idea of the shape?

EDIT: There, hows that? I'll take a pic of it in the truck later when I get the fierglass reinforcement on.
