Re: Things you might not know about newer Jimmy's(Turbo Project)

Well $hit.... I got out bid at the last second on e-bay.

Darn... I hope I can find another one!

But to answer your question... You can use the 98 Jimmy Throttle body.. It's huge!

The Marine intake has the Vortec pattern. The inside is nice and flat. I think it's a sweet turbo manifold. I'd have to confirm this with a air ballance test when I get the manifold to be 100% sure.

I hope to find another one soon.. :( let me know if you find one again...

Cool site!!! Great info... I knew I'd run into a few snags.. that let me know what they are and what other little parts I'll need to gather up.
Sweet!
Thanks!

Re: Things you might not know about newer Jimmy's(Turbo Project)

Got my Marine intake today..... Came with everything.... It's new! If anyone is more interested in these I can send them the guys info so they can contact him.

I'll be putting this on her Jimmy here in the next few weeks....... with her stock Typhoon injectors that I had cleaned and flowed. Then finish up the tune with HP Tuners that I've been playing around with and be done for awhile. She recently drove from our place to Indy (about 6hrs) there and back with no troubles. About 1400mi on it since the Transmission got back installed.
So far so good but I'm ready for some real power now :)

Re: Things you might not know about newer Jimmy's(Turbo Project)

It'll never be as good as a Typhoon... If I can get it to run in the high 13's I'd be happy for a 4door Moose that it is with left over parts I had layin around. Better to be in use than colleting dust and taking up room in my shop.
Just fun to experiment and tinker.. that's one of my favorite things to do.

Re: Things you might not know about newer Jimmy's(Turbo Project)

The Marine intake is on and working. It's a great improvement over a stock 98 Injection system by far. The wiring is easy. I'm having a little trouble with the bottom O-Rings on the injectors sealing. That's been my only problem so far. Tuning with HPTuners is getting easier. It's not as nice as Tuner Pro with Code 59. Real Time tuning is alot quicker.
Once I get the O-Rings to seal and not have a little vaccume leak there and final tune the System it'll be fantastic. We are running 10psi at WOT now with 2deg knock retard. (But it's winter too ;) ) That'll change when warm weather comes. I'll have to change some timing for sure.
I'll have some pictures soon.. been buizy with other projects.

Re: Things you might not know about newer Jimmy's(Turbo Project)

Been on there for almost 10,000 trouble free miles now. Running 10-11psi everyday. It's the wife's daily driver.
A/C works awsome... get's the same if not better MPG than in stock forum. (if you keep your foot out of it)

The cheapy e-bay intercooler works very nice. 42lb/hr injectors seem to feed it well. 255lr/hr pump's been fine as well.
The HPTuners works very well for tuning. Once I get her Typhoon done (ha ha) I can steal the Jimmy and really dial in the truck. I do a little at a time with it on tuning but it's been fine.

I would suggest it to anyone that wants their Jimmy or Blazer to have a serious improvement for not alot of money. It sure made the moose of a truck feel 100% better. It's a blast to drive.

I did another Marine intake swap on a regular Blazer several months ago in prep for the Typhoon turbo/maflds ect. He's not had time to finish the turbo part yet but the Marine intake's been great. He said there's a bit more power over stock and it drives perfect. I think we put 50lb/hr injectors in it and programmed it with HPT.

Anyway in short it's fantastic and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. :)

That's really great to hear I got 2 marine intakes hangin out and one of em is going on a fairly built 4.3 for my 02 xtreme hopefully having a sizeable turbo.. just haven't picked one out yet. The engine is 8.9:1 comp diamond pistons eagle rods cryo crank 202/160 fully ported heads and a nice little cam with sy ty mani's Should run really good and dependable this thread makes me a little more excited to get mine back together again.

Re: Things you might not know about newer Jimmy's(Turbo Project)

I think it'll work out great for that application also.. I wish the bottom part of the Marine intake was alluminum for weight savings but that cast Iron isn't going anywhere.
The internal design is good. I like the way it's setup for flow for boost.
That setup you got in the Extrem will be sweet. It's 2wd right? It'll be a tire frying machiene unless you put sticky's on it.
It's just wrong watching our 4dr truck smolter the back all season radials with a boost launch in 2wd.
If you ease into it at all through 1st it go's into 2nd gear with a loud bark from the rear tires... It's too funny.
Let us know how the build up go's!!!

I think Heahter has scheduled our older son's B-day party for that date. :(

I'll donate it to Dobrick if he needs a turbo vehicle to drive and have fun with!!!!!!

Come get it on the way... :)

Re: Things you might not know about newer Jimmy's(Turbo Project)

Finally got some "alone" time with the 98 Jimmy today.

Went through and changed spark plugs/wires..... Changed the oil and filter.

Plugs looked awsome. I changed them anyway. R42LTS gapped at .33

I think the wires were OEM since they were numbered. I thought I''d changed them

before but I might not have. I''ll need to get a new cap this week.

I tuned it some more. Added some timing in places and took some out in a few.

Added some more fuel in PE (power enrichment)

Getting consistant 11.7-11.5 AFR on the wideband at WOT with no knock at 11psi.

The intake air temp driving around is about 10-15deg above outside temp. I''ve got

the temp sensor just before the throttle body so it''s seeing close to what the

engine sees. That way I can retard the timing in another table if the IAT get''s too

high.

Moved the shift points a bit higher as I''d backed them off to begin with.

All''s working well. Oil was clean and full when I changed it.

Hope more of you join this soon! It sure is a blast to drive!

Re: Things you might not know about newer Jimmy's(Turbo Project)

What injectors were in that intake stock? I would love to have a look at some logs if you are login with HPT or if you have a tunercat file you really have my intrest peaked. my heads are out gettin re drilled right now for the rocker studs. I should be gettin ready to assemble the pickup soon.
I have a set of 42lb injectors layin around I am probobly going to start with. People are trying to talk me into the 0411 computer conversion but I really just wanna get it running.

Great to hear your acheivements

Re: Things you might not know about newer Jimmy's(Turbo Project)

I tried to recycle as many of the stock Typhoon parts as possible. I had already sent the stock 33lb/hr injectors not too long ago to get cleaned and flowed. So I decided to go ahead and use them in the 98 Jimmy. (so that's what's in there now)

I like HPTuners so much I'm half temped to take the stock Typhoon ECM and wire harness out and put in a 98 ECM and computer. I like Tuner Pro... don't get me wrong. The 98 is just so darn nice.

Shoot me a e-mail and I'll send you a log I did a couple days ago and what ever files I've got that
might help you get started.

So far this little experiment has turned out great. Have not sacerficed any depenability or MPG and
only gained power and driveability. Sure can't beat that for using a bunch of junk that was taking up space under my bench!!!
Shoot me a e-mail.

So how much does it cost to get setup with HPTuners?
