1992 Ty #1802 Saved....

I've thrown around a few posts, but never put my project up for the world to see. 1992 Typhoon 1802. 63k, very original and complete. Blown motor. I found it randomly driving around in west buttcrackville, VT on a dirt road off a dirt road. Had a for sale sign on the windshield. I stopped, and talked to the owner; a 17 year old kid. He'd come across it in it's current condition by trading Honda Rancher ATV for it "because it looked cool with the ground effects and stuff...." Had ZERO clue what he had for a truck; never heard of Typhoon or Syclone before. I asked what he wanted for it, he said make an offer because his mom wants it out of the driveway. I offered $2,000 and he accepted :new-bday:

I found out a minute later that there was no turbo included, so told him I'd give $1,500 for no turbo, and he understood, and accepted $1,500 for it as is. The fun is just starting.

I've got Waller building me an engine right now, assuming he hasn't been blown / washed off the map with all the crappy weather SC has been getting. Once it's on the road again, I'll probably end up having a tranny done by him too. Nothing too special of a buildup, just a few treats; Eagle, SRP, Comp cam, lifter & timing set, ported / polished Vortecs & intake manifolds, stock ex. manifolds and x-over pipe, ATI balancer, TCI flexplate, 20g upgrade, Ultimate chip, ATR I/C pump & aux. I/C, then your "standard" Walbro / RPM AFPR / 50# injector fuel system upgrade.

Thanks again for the carfax Jimmy. It was cool to see that everything was from CT, and that it's seen 19k on the clock since '95. The paint really is '92 vintage; faded in spots, chipping in spots, but it is the original paint; nothing hidden under there. Rust is non-existent, and all the cladding is perfect except the rear bumper, it's got a very slight crinkle where someone backed into a pole or something. You can barely see it in the rear picture; just to the right of the license plate there's a light spot where the crinkle is. The interior is still mint; the lumbar pumps work, seats are in great shape, has the CD player, label above the rear view about not off-roading, etc. The only hack up was the boost gauge hose-clamped around the column. One thing I do need is a spare tire and cover. Anyone??

I kind of felt bad hosing the kid on it, but he thought it was just a blazer with 'ground effects' and was going to head to the local junkyard to find a motor for it there. If you're that ignorant, you shouldn't own one. :D

(^^^^was joking above^^^^)

I'm holding onto this one. I've owned nothing but pieces of crap since day 1, and this will be the first decent thing I put on the road. Ya know, it's funny, I've read a lot about how women and older folks liked these trucks because they sit low, and are easy to get in and out of. When I first showed my fiance my Ty, the first thing she said was "I like how easy it is to get in and out of, I'd drive one of these." Might have one in the future for her. One big happy family..... :D

I figured as such :D Well its good to see that the previous owner didn't have too much of a chance to hack it up. I can just imagine what a mess it would have been if the stereo typical backyard mechanic threw a junkyard motor or two not even having a clue what he owned.

Its good to see someone from VT on the board, I think your the first, atleast the first one posts regularly. Their really isn't anyone from NH or ME posting either...

I haven't heard of anyone from Vermont here either. I've never seen another Sy or Ty up here, other than the one I bought. They're few and far between, and up here in the salt belt, a 1992 that has been here since day 1 is in the junkyard, rotted to pieces. Wish there was someone local to me that had one and wouldn't mind giving me a hand tuning, installing, etc. I'm sure the install won't be an issue, but I'm also sure I'll be asking questions one after the other when the time comes to drop the engine back in.

Hurry up and get her one before she changes her mind. My wife wanted a syclone, so I bought her one with 14k miles and now it just sits in the garage.

Unfortunately we've got 5 years left on her $39,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland.

The Sy will have to wait.
