Exactly Don. I picked up a set of ur5's. The truck had a some more KR with the 5's but if it runs better. I took my truck to my friends. He works for quality tune up. He said that my engine might be leaking a bit of oil down the valves and that might be the problem and stop and go driving requires a hotter plug. He said or it could be running rich. But the histograph on the DM says I am running good. Its all white. Whats a good gap setting on the plugs to help with the problem? When I gapped the 6's to .034 my truck ran better but still had a miss. He said if it still misses its either a burned valve or a bad ring. What am I looking at for a good valve job??

Think of this as a good time to compliment alllllllllll your other mods with a nice set of ported/polished vortecs!!!!!!!!! Isn't Mike at RPM selling some nice ones in the 'parts for sale' section?

I think the ur5's are the same heat range as stock. Autozone shows them as direct replacements with the ac plugs. The 6's are colder. I will gap them all to .032 and see.
I have 600$ saved up to do an alky setup and run some more guages on a 3 pod. I think new heads would be a lot more but I just got a 6$ an hour raise so I could do it in a few months. Just got to find someone I can trust to do the work.

Just bring your truck to RPM for a nice set of Vortec heads. You'll be able to run 12's with your setup right now with good heads. Then add alky eventually, turn up the boost and run mid 12's..... :tup:

I put in ur5's. I also put on a new set of taylors. The truck ran fine for a lot longer, but the missing came back. if I hold the rpm around 1500 I can hear the engine missing. sounds like every second or so it misses (hickups) . I took all the plugs off and they all look the same. they have a whitish/yellow color on the electrodes and when I whipe them off its grey underneath. They all looked the same this time. To me thats a good thing I guess. It might rule out the same cyl missing. I decited to take it in to my friends shop. they will do a leakdowm test and try to find the problem. At this point its worth the $$ to figure out the problem.

well if you decide to get a mild motor build your truck will definately run low 12s maybe mid to high 11s with tuning, which is way faster than the SRT8 you were speaking of.

I have an apointment for thursday. They will do a leakdown, compression tests. They will also track down the problem, or at least try to find it. When I told the guy its a syclone he knew what it was. he had a typhoon in the shop last summer for some work. Makes me feel better. Off the bat he said EGR or O2 sensor but the phill chips disables them right??????????

I was messing with my distributor and I noticed a lot of play in the rotar. The rotor will move left to right and up and down. Does not seem right to me. Dont remember any of my other cars having play but I never spent this much time messing with them.

What's "a lot"? There is some end play in the stock dist which, I gather, more than a few owners have added shims to reduce. Left right by itself is backlash which you have to have. Don't know what the spec is but if you're worried you can pull the dist and examine the gear. When checking don't get the two of them (left right, up down) mixed up. Taken together it will seem like a lot of slop.

it will pull up about 1/2 inch. just curious if that could be causing my misfire. its getting real bad. I realy want to drive it. I have 2k saved for an engine rebuild i was planning for next summer. if its bad valves i will be doing a l35 head swap. sounds like the best bang for the buck. vortecs sound like too much work. should 2k cover it. including labor.

I just replaced my cap and rotor and I don't remember any play what so ever. That could affect your ignition, but I don't think it would cause the misfire. Especially if you're only getting it on one cylinder. If it was slipping or rising up, it would affect all the points and your car probably wouldn't even start.
