here's some more progress.
Day 5
All poles are up, skirt boards in place and concrete coming tomorrow for the footings.

Concrete for the footings poured. Unfortunately, thats all that happened that day.

Finally got to spend a full day on the shop. Holes refilled with dirt, started framing up 2 of the walls.

A few things I learned after building my first shop....
1) make sure you put in provisions for a row of florescent lights along the wall in front of where the truck is being worked on - a drop light is OK, but there's nothing like having a wall of lights in front of the truck. If you have one 'work bay' put one row at about 5' up, and the second right at 8' (I'm assuming you'll have high ceilings).
2) Unless you're using high pressure sodium fixtures, make sure you use the new t-8 florescent bulbs and digital ballasts -much better in cooler weather, use a lot less energy, have a better pattern, and start up faster.... the sodiums are nice :tup:
3) outlets every 6' on the wall, plus a few drop-downs for cord reels, etc.
4) TV and stereo wiring - may not use it now, but can be nice in the future.
5) Wiring for external motion sensor lighting on all four exterior walls. Yes, you'll see a lot of deer and rabbits tripping them, but worth the piece of mind.
6) 220 for compressor/ welder, etc...... CAT5 (or wireless) for computer...

Outlets are probably going every 8' (thats what the existing shop has), but 6' might be doable as well, not like its gonna cost anymore. As for the drop downs, not gonna happen. I hate them, my buddy hates them, and most importantly we're planning on making an i-beam rig with a chainfall so we can lift out and move anything, anywhere in the building, so nothing will be hanging down.

Flood lights are already going up, installing sensors can be an after thought, but nothing will really trip them as the whole yard will be fenced in soon.

thank you for the tips. Just about everything has been mapped/planned with exception to the radiant heat and where the lift is going to go exactly.

How are you going to run power for the lifts? Wouldn't those be drop-downs from the ceiling? Run two 110's, a 220, and an air line to a spot right above the lift and you're golden. Not sure if you're over there yet, but check out http://www.garagejournal.com as they have a lot of information and tips.

Day, who the F cares at this point
Siding is finished, ridge cap installed, just need the corner trim and roof end caps installed and the exterior is complete. Roll up doors and ceiling joists are all that remain after that before we get our final.
Also looking to go a different route other than the radiant heat in the floor. Supposedly a friend of a friend has been doing heating/cooling in large commercial warehouses for years and says there are better and cheaper options, so we'll see.

Just a little update for everyone.
After about a month of delays and friends who have concrete experience backing out of helping out with pouring the slab at last minute, my friend decided to have the slab poured by a local contractor last Thursday. It probably evened out in the end in terms of cost considering they had 6 guys and all the equipment to do it, plus made all the arrangements for the concrete deliverly, ect ect. By the time we would have rented the equipement and everything else, it was probably a lot smarter this way.

my guess is that you're not going to epoxy coat the whole floor, so are you planning on leaving it bare? maybe a stain of some sort?

we might, it depends on if we can get the stuff through some other route besides retail, otherwise its gonna cost like $2100 :lol:
We already know someone who has enough sealer to do the whole floor, just need to weigh the options and see whats best for the floor and pocket.
