picked up my shortblock, heads and intakes this past weekend...got to see a huge olds engine make 1876 horsepower while i was at my builders shop on saturday...pretty intense...did the por15 yesterday...i told this kid to wear gloves while applying it, and he didn't listen...i'll try to get the engine in this week and start putting the body back on...

not to try to start a big 'ol discussion or anything but i tested the por15 tonight with a screwdriver on the top of my frame...i treated it several days ago...i searched the web and found that some people said that por15 is 10 times stronger than powdercoat...i wouldn't go so far as to say that but, it does stay in your skin...i have some going on right now...i held a flathead screwdriver to the top of the frame and twisted it and the por15 came right off just in a small test spot...i stripped the frame with 4000 psi water and used marine clean, metal ready, and then a whole quart of por15...it's definitely stronger than the factory wax deal...and it neutralizes rust ....just not bulletproof i guess, more of a preventative thing.... :drinking:

judging by your pic, you didnt sandblast or remove all the wax, right? i still see black wax on the frame. the frames come with a wax coating from the factory.

there cant be any wax on the frame or else it's pointless to paint over it. it is like trying to paint over grease. it will come off.
if you have the surface prepared right, it is hard to scratch the por15 off.

i decided not to sandblast because of a conversation i had with the por15 guy by phone...he said it wouldn't be necessary, and i didn't want to deal with leftover sand for years to come...i dont know how much wax remained on the frame, but my pressure washer did a pretty good job of removing the black...it's a porter cable, 18hp kohler model, 4000psi...i can put a hole through a 1"x4" with the zero degree nozzle...it will peel the skin and flesh off of your bones ...the frame was treated a number of days after the wash job...i also asked him if the new surface rust that formed during those days would hurt the treatment and he said it would actually help it stick if i use marine clean, metalready, then por15...by the way, one quart was just enough for extensive coverage of the sy frame..just had very little left over...if it's anything like an automotive paintjob, it must get harder with time...

Looks good, what color your gonna paint it.

black as black can be...i gave my supplier the paint code in the glovebox...
Once you go black you never go back.
Good choice.

I thought henry ford (yes I know) put it best when he said "you can have any color you want so long as it's black :D

didn't happen "this week"...taking a while before materialization here...i just took the plastic off of the motor...still need to buy the suitable torque converter to use when I smoke my stock tranny after i think i'm done...an air to air is in my near future ...i have a good 57k stock trans in the sy and a ty core that i want to send to a syty tranny guy for rebuild...pm or email me if you can build it for me......We're kinda putting together a hybrid here and still not done yet...here's a description of a few things in this motor...a/c didn't interfere....marine, balance shaft block...BillC's high flowing L35's...wallers crankshaft (which i haven't paid for yet :still owe:)...nolans bitchin cam for a balance shaft block...les's old 72lb injectors...marty's stealth70 turbo...mike lee's pistons, cometic gaskets. eagle rods and syty gasket set...typhool's blow-off valve...jegs little stuff like pushrods and cvr starter...razor's alky (i want to sell the new alky kit and just run c16 like phill does)....

i just finished the critical motor stuff today and brought it home...i'm sure i missed stuff, but i have alot more to go anyway...wish me luck...here are some pics... i had the upper intake polished and had the lower intake and both accessory brackets powdercoated....

Servando - All i can say is nice work. I can't wait to see the truck in person.

If your asking for color suggestion for the cladding. I like the Silver color that is on Ry's from Colorado's Typhoon. It's a little different then the factory silver but makes a huge Difference. Maybe Will or Arron can get a few pics of it.

BTW - Ry's truck is white / custom silver

here's a couple pics of Ry's Typhoon:

i'd post pics of mine, because mine is a little different silver as well, but i can't tell you the color because the previous owner painted it. :)

nice cladding color...i wonder what it would look like on a black truck? so far i'm leaning towards gloss black for the cladding...

i'm tired an dirty...need a shower about now...the long nights are back after being without an engine for so long...2 am my time around now...put a new converter in, replaced the steering box with a zq8<<<what a b!tch... stabbed the engine, installed new starter and took care of a number of little details that need to be done now or never...started at 6 pm...myself and one $10 an hour helper... good thing is it's very easy to work on without the body on it...braided tranny lines and some sort of fuel lines to come in the next few days so i can get the cab back on, mock up the rest of my downpipe, then start building the front portion of the body back up...

the blue valve covers are just temporary...couldn't get the plastic vortecs to fit very well tonight...
